Hi folks,

I had my medical this morning with Dr. Cheema. I decided to have my medical done in Vancouver since I am relatively close (Kamloops), and it was more economical to have it done there vs. staying an extra couple days in Montreal to do it there before interview.

Booking the interview was very straight forward. Sent them an email per their instructions, they responded back within an hour or two. In the initial email, I requested a date, and they had no issues with accommodating it. They provided a word doc in their email which is pretty much exactly what their website shows, and includes general information, what to bring, etc.

My medical was at 8am, and I got there about 10 minutes before. There was one other person there. The receptionist took my interview letter, passport, vaccination records, and drivers license and made some copies. I then provided them with my address, email address, phone number etc. (I elected to have them courier the results to me for an additional $30 fee). The receptionist then took my weight and height, and I was taken to the exam room.

After reviewing the expectations for the exam on the embassy website, I was expecting to have to get into a robe, etc. as they mentioned that they would be examining eyes, ears, nose, throat, extremities, and genitalia. That is definitely not what happened in my case. I wasn't asked to change into a robe, and remained fully clothed for the duration. He started filling out the form and asking some medical questions (history of mental illness, drugs, law problems, etc. etc.). He then took my temp (via ear), blood pressure, had me do a quick vision test. He felt my stomach, then listened to heart rate/breathing over my shirt. And that was it. It look 5 minutes at most.

Then it was off to get the chest X-Ray and blood test. The X-ray is to check for tuberculosis, and the blood test is to test for syphilis. Both places are in the same building, and it's about 12 (long!) blocks away. While you could walk if you wanted, it's pretty far. I started walking, and then realized it was farther than I thought (started at 72nd ave, and got to about 76th ave and it was already 1km... The labs are at 84th ave). So unless you feel like walking a few km each way, either drive, or take a quick taxi.

I did the X-Ray first. Wasn't very busy at the x-ray place. Gave them the paperwork provided by Dr. Cheema, and was taken in and done within 5 minutes. Then I went upstairs to get the bloodwork done. As has been reported by others, I should have went upstairs to grab a number, then go downstairs for the X-ray. Unfortunately I forgot to do that. When I got upstairs, the room was full. They were currently working on number 66, and I drew 90. I waited for around 30-45 minutes and then my number came up. Gave them the other paperwork, and went and got the blood drawn. Once my number was called, I was out within 5 minutes. I did see another guy there who was also getting his blood work done for immigration.

You do not need to return back to Dr. Cheema after the blood test/x-ray, everything will be sent to them automatically. I could have picked up my results tomorrow after 4pm, but rather than staying another day in Vancouver, I decided to head home and have them send it to me.

All in all, the exam was a breeze. Worst part was just waiting for the blood test... However, considering all the waiting we do in this entire visa process, I've become accustomed to waiting.
