EXTRA MONEY ON TAX REFUNDS!!

I do not know if this is new for 2015, but it is great news for 2015 filers.

As per IRS 2015 Pub 17 page 22. (middle of the page. just above the Special Rules sub-title).

We can file MFS (Married Filing Separately) and claim the exemption (money) for our NRA (Non resident alien)spouse.

Just three conditions are needed:

1. Spouse does not have any gross income in 2015.

2. Spouse is not claimed as dependent by other person besides you.

3. Spouse does not file 2015 Income tax return.

This can represent a big chunk of money extra in your IRS refund. ( $ 1000.00 in my case)

Disclaimer: I am not a tax lawyer, consult with your tax preparer or do it at your own risk.

Still waiting for an interview date. Jason and I have called about every other day and get told that it hasn't been scheduled yet. Multiple reps at NVC told us that the next correspondence we will receive will be the interview letter. Not mad at NVC or Montreal, it will all happen in due time. Hopefully in the next week or so.

Congrats to Cosmos and GoBucks! Would be sweet if we had our interview on the same day in Montreal!

I swear if all our spouses have their interview date the same day, we are meeting up for lunch in Montreal while we wait for them! I am definitely going to Canada for his interview, moral support and all. :) Hopefully we all get a interview date soon!

  1. If you haven't already pay the $165 green card production fee
  2. Go to local SS office to apply for SS card (can;t always depend on that check box on DS-260
  3. Start looking for work, or have fun and relax
  4. Get state ID card or Drivers license

There's really not much to do for spouses. Thank God. Your 551 stamp in your passport at POE is your temp green card stamp.

Cool be be sure to put A0 and her 8 digits. Why they make this so hard I don't know. It's like that show "Amazing Race" those who figure re it out and all the clues and twists and turns get to come to US. LOL :goofy:

And your DOS # is your case# from NVC.

No we didn't, more than one rep at NVC said the next thing will be an interview letter. I see people here talk about CC letters but NVC didn't mention anything about it. The interview info will come, waiting sucks but the excitement is kinda fun knowing we have something special coming up.

We will definitely meet up if the interview date is the same!! I love Montreal, really fun city.

You didn;t state you wanted a green card the check box I was referring to is "Do you want a SS card mailed to you".

You only can pay online on the ELIS system. There's no paying at embassy for your visa category. You went through NVC and paid everything.

https://public-prod-elis2.uscis.dhs.gov/efile/app/app/iv/#!/

The Visa is just to enter the US. Once entered it's voided and not needed. Once you make it through POE with your 551 stamp in Passport like I mentioned you are a LPR (Legal Permanent Resident).

You could turn around that same hour and board a plane and go back to your country for 6 months.

No you are not adjusting any status. You will be a LPR upon entry.
