HK divorce lawyer? (split thread)

Hello, my fiance and I are in the same situation just starting the process of finding a lawyer in Hong Kong to start her divorce. Can anyone recommend a lawyer they have used there for this?

As I understand it getting a divorce in Hong kong has a residency requirement... If your future wife has something other than a tourist visa in Hong Kong than she should contact Legal Aid in Hong Kong and the process will be essentially free and the lawyer will walk her thru the whole process. One should not assume that taking a trip to Hong Kong as a tourist is a way to secure a divorce for a Philippina.

Note also that when my wife went thru the process it took about 9 months and you can't file your K-1 until you both are free to Marry so you're spouse should start the process ASAP

Thanks for the reply. She has a working visa. Would the process be quicker if she hired a lawyer vs free legal aid?

Nope, Legal Aid Contracts out a lawyer so it comes down to rather you/her want to pay out of pocket for no good reason. Note that legal Aid does work based on financial need so if she is on a working visa and make lots of money she might not qualify. If she is a DH well then no problem qualifying they don't look at your income.
