Yusuf Dayur, a 12-year-old boy from Eden Prairie, Minnesota, has a message he wants presidential candidate Ben Carson to hear.

"I will become the first Muslim president!" Dayur declares in a video that his mother, Shukri Abukar, uploaded to Facebook and YouTube. "And you will see that when I become president, I will respect people of all faiths, all colors and all religions."

The middle-schooler's father, Hassan Mohammed, told ABC News that Dayur felt compelled to make the video after he heard Carson would not support a Muslim as president of the U.S.

"I would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation," Carson told NBC's "Meet the Press." "I absolutely would not agree with that."

Did he mean Emir?

It's been awhile. A black Muslim who wants to be President. I can feel the hate coming...

It is good to see a honest man running for president. Not only that he is in touch with real Americans.

If this kid is for real, you better start buying Jergens stock. There isn't enough lotion in the universe for this one!!!

I don't either, but the power game in DC can be seductive. I have a couple of friends who would be psychologically unable to live anywhere else, or do anything else, other than live, breath and eat politics. It's an addiction, in my book.

Read an article on the source of the birther/Muslim rumors about the president. Turns out it appears they started in the primaries and were started by the Clinton camp.

She's a real peach. Sort of implies that maybe racism and bigotry aren't limited to white pubs.

2012 campaign
The Democratic Roots of the Birther Movement

The idea of going after Obama’s otherness dates back to the last presidential election—and to Democrats. Long before Trump started in, Hillary Clinton’s chief strategist, Mark Penn, recognized this potential vulnerability in Obama and sought to exploit it. In a March 2007 memo to Clinton (that later found its way to me), Penn wrote: “All of these articles about his boyhood in Indonesia and his life in Hawaii are geared toward showing his background is diverse, multicultural and putting it in a new light,” he wrote. “Save it for 2050. It also exposes a very strong weakness for him—his roots to basic American values and culture are at best limited. I cannot imagine America electing a president during a time of war who is not at his center fundamentally American in his thinking and his values.”

Penn also suggested how the campaign might take advantage of this. “Every speech should contain the line that you were born in the middle of America to the middle class in the middle of the last century,” he advised Clinton. “And talk about the basic bargain as about [sic] the deeply American values you grew up with, learned as a child, and that drive you today.” He went on: “Let’s explicitly own ‘American’ in our programs, the speeches and the values. He doesn’t … Let’s add flag symbols to the backgrounds [of campaign events].”

Penn was not a birther. His memo didn’t raise the issue of Obama’s citizenship. Furthermore, he was acutely aware of the political danger that a Democrat would court by going after Obama in this way, even subliminally: “We are never going to say anything about his background,” he wrote. Still, his memo is the earliest example of a strategy that metastasized. The Republican tactic has been to make explicit what Penn intended to be merely implicit—and then carry it to its furthest extreme. Soon, the belief spread among many voters that Obama had been educated in a radical madrassa, that he was secretly a Muslim, and, finally, that he had not even been born in the U.S.

It was the Clinton machine, I remember it being discussed on the Daily Show years back and no I do not know the episode but Google is your friend.

One of the reasons Obama will do what he can to screw up her campaign, no love lost there.

Going to be fascinating to watch, also a bit sad, but thats Politics.

This kid is admittedly a Muslim, he's not denying that. His comments came in the wake of Carson's remarks, that a Muslim should not be elected president - a remark originated from a complete disregard for the 6th amendment. What is really ironic - if not hypocritical - is that were it not for a similar amendment, a black person would also be ineligible for the Oval office.

It would be easier if Carson simply came clean, and apologized for the nonsense he uttered.

Truly a unique quirk of the horrifically bent far right conservative mindset. I can't disagree with the well documented origins of the 'Obama is suspect as a true American' smear campaign starting with the Hilary Clinton campaign, but the fact is that the Republicans have picked up the ball and ran with it for years now, long after the game was over. Made it well and truly theirs.

Here on VJ, where actual Gay couples can now come and seek help in their Visajourneys, as well as Muslims, bigots are protected from scorn for espousing clear prejudice to both groups of marriage visa hopefuls. That protection is afforded even when they attack both in the same post. Pretty crazy if you ask me.
