Hi folks - a quick question:

My wife's interview is scheduled for 28 July at the US Consulate in Hong Kong.

I called yesterday to see if they could move it to an earlier date & was told that '...once the NVC schedules the interview, we cannot change it.'

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks!

You can't If you submitted originals to USCIS they are not in the package they belong to USCIS and they do not return them to you. You would have to fill out a I-884 I believe and it takes months to years to get your originals back if you ever do.

You will have to go get new copies. USCIS does not forward any originals to NVC that's why NVC ask for them..

I got copies of original. after submission to uscis with originals I requested right away to the issuing authority of MC, BC etc.. for NVC and interview stage.

Oh my, my husband didn't tell me that it took months to get them back.?

Hey, Coop. I lived in Hong Kong for six years, and the US Consulate was ALWAYS busy. Just to get something like having a document notarized took me over a week to get an appointment.

I'm assuming that they just don't want to change it.

christina, i just registered my interview online and you can click on a button to reschedule the interview....have you tried this? are you brave enough to do it? what if it just cancels our interview and we can't actually get an earlier one? i was wanting an earlier interview but don't know how likely the possibility is. and i'm scared of pressing that button!

1. Are you re-doing your I-864? If not, you just need a copy of what you sent last time. If you are taking a NEW I-864 to your interview, date it with a current date. Sorry - I cannot tell from your post which is true in your case.

2. You do not need an original hard copy of your joint sponsor's returns. A copy is fine.

3. If you are talking about your 2014 tax returns, you will need a copy of everything you submitted to the IRS - so...this is your 1040, any 1099s, etc. Your Consular Officer should understand that people who are working abroad do not have a W-2. But if you have a 2014 summary wage statement from your foreign employer, it would not hurt to have that statement if you did not submit it to the IRS.

Good luck!

Sukie - thank you so much for your help! You are great!

That is my next question - do I have to re do my 1-864 if I am including my 2014 tax return? Also will I have to re do it for my joint sponser as well? (Meaning I will need to include his 2014 tax return?) I had submitted the i-864 before the 2014 return was due.

Thanks again!

Hi Sukie,

Thats been my experience over the last 22 years as well... not always very accommodating. I don't think a change will be possible at all, so it looks like my wife will visit for a few weeks from 8-24 July, then come back for her interview on the 28th. Hopefully she can be at home with us by early August!

Thanks,

OK - here is my own story (I'm the USC). I submitted my AOS on April 9, 2013, with 2010, 2011, and 2012 tax transcripts. They were scanned into the system on April 15th - tax day. Our interview was scheduled on June 6th, and occurred on July 1st.

We were not required to present 2013 taxes at all, nor was I required to update the I-864. I had my tax transcript for 2013 with me at the interview (I was able to attend the interview with my spouse), volunteered it, and the CO said they were not needed.

Now, my spouse was from a low-fraud country, and I made significantly over the Poverty Line. So that might have played into the fact that I was not required to present an updated I-864 or my latest tax information. I think Israel is a low-fraud country, no?

I would take updated tax information with you in case you are asked for it (or your spouse). But I really don't think you need to worry about an updated I-864 unless NVC or your Embassy/Consulate has mentioned it. Especially if you and your joint sponsor are comfortably over the poverty line.

Best of luck to you!
