It's been $265 for at least a year. Before it changed, I'm pretty sure it was $350.

The change in £ would be due to fluctuating exchange rates and fees credit cards charge for paying in a foreign currency maybe.

Paying for the Visa

  1. Once you have your interview date, there's one last bit of admin to do and that's to pay your Visa/MRV Fee. Go to this site and follow these instructions:
  2. Hit “Register” then select the top option.
  3. Enter your details.
  4. Hit “Add Applicant” and then pick the middle option in the drop-down menu (“I need to register a K Visa Appointment”)
  5. Fill in the details here too, and then you'll be taken back to the main page.
  6. Hit “Continue” and select the closest DX Secure depot to your location (You can pay for home delivery afterwards if you want it delivered).
  7. Then enter your appointment information.
  8. Next up is paying the visa fee which is currently £150. Once that's confirmed, you can then print off a copy of the next page as evidence of paying. After that, you also now have the option of paying an extra $30 (currently about £19) for home delivery of the visa. Print off a copy of that receipt too – you get sent the confirmations via email as well so you can print those off at a library if you have to.

thats what I went on x

Guys, nothing to argue about here. The Department of State has not increased the fee for a visa. It is $265 in US dollars at every embassy in the world. But Gina is pointing out that if you thought that was going to be around £150, today it is running at £180.

What that means is your pounds won't buy as many dollars at today's rate. So you need more pounds to cover $265. It also means if you transfer your savings to the US, maybe you won't end up with as many dollars if you estimated a year ago.

The guide page is over a year old. Wheatley wrote what he paid and and said it is "currently" £150 as a reference. With exchange rates, it could go up or down in pounds at any time.

Interesting process, I must say in the least. We've done weeks of research before even applying and followed many guides and yet we've still encountered unexpected costs, but that's life and unpredictable in some senses. I understand why some people choose to go the route of following the advice of a solicitor then later complaining about how bad they are (as mentioned by the doctor at knightbridge, being the number one topic of conversation). I contacted a solicitor after 20 odd calls to different places. I was already armed with the information I needed, but wanted confirmation from an official. It turns out that one USA immigration expert in London was offering to undertake a case at £750 per hour. All I needed was evidence of name change, and yet they hadn't even heard of this (so they said over the phone). So, in my opinion at £750 an hour, it didn't inspire much confidence in these people. Moral being, I paid £20 and had a judge sign off on my name change proof. Anyway, I'm ranting about nothing.
