I don't think they will stamp expired document. Just get a new passport then you can probably get a stamp.

Yep, it's insanity. Way back when, ours went missing, luckily I was tracking it on my phone, called the local post office, read them the riot act, they met my wife and handed it to her. Luckily, it was mis-sorted rather than mis-delivered in our case, but it is obnoxious that they don't ship it express - who wouldn't pay another $20 for that option?

Yup, it really is crazy. Wish they would send these important documents through express mail coz this is just not right.

By the way, are you from ormoc? I asked coz I am from Ormoc, too. :-)

Yes it was put mistakingly in the wrong mailbox. The carrier came back and opened all the mail boxes but they couldn't find it. So what we did was, we put signs near the mailboxes, that a mail is missing and whoever has it to just kindly contact us or drop it in the "mis-throw" box.

The only thing is you have to PROVE that the card was not delivered. You need to get the USPS supervisor to write a letter stating that the GC was not actually delivered to you, but it was misdelivered. Otherwise the USCIS will look at the tracking info and say it was delivered and you owe the I-90 fee. I agree with you and this is also one of my pet peeves with the USCIS. Send the damn mail return receipt for all correspondence between the USCIS and the LPR or USC. That way if you sign for it it was actually delivered. SInce we pay for this process, why not just increase the fees to cover that additional cost.

Unfortunately you do if the card is not returned to USCIS. If they show it as delivered (even if not to you) then you have to pay the I-90 filing fee.

I personally like the idea suggested earlier in the thread of using I-551 passport stamps until RoC.

It's a convenient con, one that USCIS could fix if they used a better shipping method than Priority Mail, or something better than USPS altogether.

I believe it is a 10 year card unless I misread and got lost in the thread. So they should probably replace it.

To the OP - I know it may seem silly but have you offered a reward? Don't say how much but just encourage the person to get it back to you rather than chuck it in the trash because it isn't for them and they're too lazy to bring it back to the mailboxes. I would imagine that whoever has it would quickly see it is not their mail but they may not know you or how to get it back to you. I get a LOT of mail for people who used to live in my house before we bought it and I gave up on returning to sender as it is just so frequent.

Give it a couple days though because maybe they're just going to bring it back the next time they go to the mailbox?

Hi Ms Hogan, a reward is actually a good idea to encourage whoever has the envelope, I never thought about that.

What we did for now is just putting signs in the mailbox room. But yes, we might offer a reward. Hopefully we'll find it.
