She said "Honey, I am ready to give my life to you".

That sounded pretty damned good. So we looked up the immigration rules together. K-1 seemed best. There wasn't a "will you marry me" with a ring and all. She just threw that out at me on the third day after we met. I was certainly impressed with her boldness.

The day we met, we went out for pizza. The waitress said it looked like we had been together for years. Other people told us the same thing. That's exactly how we felt. So it wasn't surprising when she spurted it out. I had to leave in a couple more days. We had to make a decision. I told her I would be back in nine months, and we would go from there.

I came back in less than one month. lol. I sold my stash of gold to finance things. I'd been a bush pilot for over 20 years. I had a bunch of nuggets I got off gold miners in bush Alaska. I was flying in stuff for them to their mines in my supercub and they were trading me nuggets when gold was $280. Gold was up over $1,000 an ounce and nuggets were $1300 so I cashed in all my nuggets and went after this little 19 year old hottie on Mindanao.

I moved in with her family for about four months. I sent the I-129F after we'd been together about six months. That gold held out a loooong time and it was worth every micron. I bought building materials and her father and me built a house together. It was a wonderful experience.

Our 7th anniversary is in two weeks. Still newlyweds. :)

This is.. a long one, so apologizes if you actually read this to the end.

I have to go back to us actually discovering the place he proposed. The day before we found the place, we had gone down to Durham to visit the cathedral. When we got there, there was tons tour buses everywhere. We had no idea what was going on. But I figured, maybe they were just doing tours, or filming a documentary or something at the time. When we stepped inside, the sound of a man singing greeted us. We both did a double-take. There was Sting, performing a live concert for everyone (which was being filmed for his cd/dvd). It was one of the most memorable days of my life. We stayed for quite a while, before driving home in the afternoon, but while on the road I pointed out a landmark that was really visible in the distance and wanted a closer look. In the NE of England, there's a place called Penshaw monument. It looks like a Greco-Roman temple on a giant hill. I wanted to go explore it and completely misjudged that it would be quite a climb, and scrambled up with a very poor choice of shoes. It was a glorious afternoon. We stayed up there for a while, and it was during that time that all these swarms of butterflies (Painted Ladies) were flitting around as they only migrate to the UK during that time of year. One landed on my hand, and as I turned to show him, I happened to spot this giant park some distance below us from my vantage point. He hadn't any idea what it was, but we decided to go back at another time. This was of course, during my first visit to meet his family, and it was getting within a week or so for me to return home. Really quite terribly depressing when you have to say goodbye, but for me, I had been having such a wonderful trip I didn't want to go home at all.

I really cannot recall the day when it was we finally said let's just get engaged, but I remember that whenever I had met a family member they'd lay it on thick about why we hadn't gotten married already. Afterall we'd been together for soooo long. One night in bed, I said ''huh, babe, maybe we should just like get engaged?'' It had always been a joke thing, where I'd ask him to marry me, and he'd roll his eyes and say no, and make a speech about how it's supposed to be his job to propose. This time, he was very serious, and said ''lets just do it!'' So the last... maybe 10 days I was there, we went about looking for a ring, and he ended up finding the very one he had always wanted to get me years ago.

Now, his parents knew about our decision, and when we brought the ring home, they sort of kept bugging us about when he was going to pop the question. We were due to go out on a date that night, before heading out on a short roadtrip with his parents to the mountains (me with a terrible cold at the time). We were really stressed out about everything, as he'd just bought this ring, and his PC had imploded when we returned home, taking backup copies of all my photographs with it, and he needed it for uni. I had figured that he was going to propose on our date that night, but he was sneaky because he ended up turning a kind of awkward proposal into a wonderful one.

His mom had insisted that the best way to go cure a cold was to go out into the fresh air, so he decided that we should go feed the birds, take a picnic, explore the park.. and just bloody relax from everything. So here I was completely clueless as to what he was planning to do, and we went about feeding the birds, exploring the trails, and eating at the lake. Soon it was time to go, but before we walked back to the car, I was a little delayed because the swans decided it would be great fun to follow me about like I was their long lost mom. I know what everyone says about swans, but I keep a wary eye. It's a little intimidating because being short as I am, and this majestic bird just towered over me. It got bored of me eventually, and I paused at a signpost which had a big description about the history of the park and various wildlife there. I must of stood there for a good ten minutes reading.. mumbling stuff to him.. and then I realize hey, where is he?? He's not next to me.. and he isn't responding. :P

Little did I know he'd been behind me the whole time on one knee waiting for me to turn around, while the swan had stood there also giving him the evil eye. I started crying with joy and laughing at the hilarity of the situation as he proposed. He will forever tease me about how interested I was in the informational sign to notice. We did end up going on our date and his family threw a big engagement bash for us when we got back.

Two years later, we went back to that park. I swear that swan is *still* there. :)

I watched him walk around the house for a good 20-30 mins, sit down, look at me, then get up and pace around a bit more.

Finally he sat down and said "Will you be my wife?"

"yes, yes I will. Are you sure?"

"Yes, I am. Well I guess I better go buy some hardware then!"

Not super romantic and it was over skype. He came up to visit about 2 weeks later and slipped a ring over my finger while we cuddled. The engagement came less than a month after our first meeting in public (which was 3 years ago yesterday.)

Well, we had gotten the rings ahead of time, so it wasn't a surprise, but unromantically it went like this:

I laid across him in bed trying to tickle him and he brought out the ring box and asked. He said he couldn't wait. LOL.

Whoops, forgot to include my own!

We decided over the summer that we wanted to spend our lives together and embark on the K1 process, but it wasn't until this Christmas that he got down on one knee and popped the question with a ring. It was Christmas Eve and he drove me to this neighbourhood he always went to when he was younger because they are known for having awesome christmas lights. He parked and after awhile I asked if we were going to go home but he said not yet. I was wondering what on earth was going on and then suddenly he hopped out the car, ran around to the passenger side, flung my door open and got down on one knee. So although we have considered ourselves "engaged" for a few months now, this was still a special moment for us

Keep the stories coming guys!

We were at the beach writing in the sand, and I saw he started to write my name: Shanae and then Ma... I thought he was writing my middle name Marie but then it turned into "Marry Me" :) it was really cool because I wasn't expecting it! I thought he was just going to write my full name :)

This is a lovely thread :) it's so interesting hearing other people's stories!

We went to the beach to celebrate our 1 year anniversary, we had gone to a beach the first day we met in person and began dating so it seemed fitting. It was absolutely freezing due to it being December and we were in the UK but it was lovely even so. I was attempting (and failing) to skim stones on the water and he was trying to find some good ones for doing so. He then said my name and I assumed he was giving me another stone but instead, I turned round to a ring in his hand and he asked me to marry him :) we then went to see a movie, wander around the arcade place nearby and got some food.

Well, we had been talking about wanting to really be together and not just spend vacations and the odd trip for a while...

And we had covered our respective attitudes to marriage in lots of talks before as well - we both used to be anti-marriage and then we met each other and something changed.#

So, one day while cuddling on the sofa he just whispered in my ear and I said yes. No super romantic extravagant thing planned out, but for me it was the greatest moment ever.

We still ask each other the "Will you marry me" question every few weeks as a joke.

No ring, as I do not like them, but we went on a sort of engagement vacation together and got ourselves some nice art work as an engagement present for when we finally live together.

I knew it was coming, since we'd already begun the K-1 process, but he bought the ring the day after visiting me in July, and he sent me the receipt for the ring in an envelope with his paperwork, under strict orders that I was not to look. :P
I flew up to visit him in September, and when we were loading my bags in the car, he just turned around and did it right then. On the rooftop level of the Buffalo Airport parking garage. :D

My ring is awesome too. It's an interpretation of Nenya, Galadriel's Ring of Power, from the LoTR series. :)

Timeline

well I have known my husband from high school days ( we both attend the same high in Guyana) he used to liking me back then but because of the school rules and strict parenting we were not allowed to have BF /GF.

He migrated to New York as soon as we finished high school with his parents and I migrated to Canada about 3 yrs after ...we did not see each back neither hear anything back . I was on Vacation is 2012 visiting my aunt in NY and shopping on Jamaica Ave and I saw this guy approach and said " aren't you so and so ??? i was like yes do you know me he was yes I do ...don't you remember me , I paused for a moment and took a good look i still couldn't recognized him as he changed from when i know him , then he said his name and a little memory came.We talk for a little and he said are you living in NY now and I said no , he was like are you visiting from Guyana and I was like no I live in Canada now,,,,that moment we exchanged telephone number and he offered to take me for dinner but unfortunately that was my last few minutes in NY when I return to Canada I text him and we start communicating via text the he would call once every week.

He asked me to visit for valentine 2013 I wan unable to do so for months he been on me .....I decide to visit back but I went during the Easter time 2013 and that time they had what is called "Phagwah celebration - the colorful celebration in NY" he came and pick up me up from my aunt right on Jamaica Ave and we went down to the celebration ... after the celebration we went down to his house ( for those who live in NY on VJ knows what is like during that celebration)

my entire body and clothe were full of power and all the other colorful stuff they used ....he offered me to take a shower and used his clothes -jeans and t-shirt but i refused to I told him i will wait to go back to my aunt house.

I was kinda scared to be in the living room at his place as his parents was there so he offered me to his room and wait while he get me some food to eat ..while i was him room i was sitting on the end of his bed as i was tired from the standing all day... he came in the room closed the door and open a draw pull out a box i was clueless .... then he went on his knees and put his hand on my legs are start talking ( i was like inside of me OMG is this really happening ) then he took out the ring from the box and said this is how much I am very serious about our relationship ..." will you marry" as he was saying it he was already putting the ring on my finger.......i was surprised and shock then I paused and then say "yes" he then give a big and kiss.

I went to my aunt house with a ring on my finger....the look on her face was oh wow really ....she was like make sure no SEX at all because of our religion and I promised her I wont cause I was at her house until I ready to come back to Canada.

But it was a great one...still remember every second of it
