TheFoxxy and Sweetsinks,

Thank you very much for your interesting responses.

In our case, the Certified Marriage License seems to be more than just a document allowing us to get married, as it contains information about the marriage itself including the name of the Officiant who performed the ceremony, which was concurrent with applying for the license. In other words, the marriage was solemnized right then and there at the court house. And it is this license that has the official seal on it to which I believe The Foxxy refers.

Maybe that explains why what we have is titled as a License and not a Certificate. Or maybe I am missing something?

As for having gotten the copy itself certified, that was no doubt a good idea which unfortunately didn't occur to us. Still, the instructions don't require it so at this point, two months since our packet was received in Chicago, we will just wait and see what they say, fingers doubly crossed.

Thanks again to both of you!

"Sweetswinks", not "Sweetsinks", so sorry! (Much more romantic your way....)

Lol! Yes it's Sweets Winks (they're my familys nicknames for me)

Well Indiana just calls it a license so I wouldn't worry about that! Each state has a different protocol for marriage certification. As long as it is signed and sealed it's certified!

Sorry forgot to tell you(( No we did not expedite, just normal submission. I do not know why I got approved for EAD/AP so quickly. Maybe it was to make up for the 6 month wait time for the K1 NOA2))))

Our marriage license became our marriage certificate after we were married and submitted it to the court house. While I was there i had them make a certified copy of our marriage license and that is what we submitted. Not just a regular copy made by us at a copy machine, the court house did it and they signed/stamped it to make it an official copy.

So my I-485 is ''ready to be schedule for an interview'' no updates on EAD/AP yet, but does anyone know when I can apply for a SSN? and how?

Also for the interview, me and my husband have a sponsor, i submitted his original tax return copy from last year and his original employment letter verification, Is ok if I only bring a copy of those for the interview since I submitted the originals? Also, can i bring a copy of the sponsor passport since I can not bring his passport with me because he is an army ranger? Should I ask our sponsor for a copy for his tax return to that year as well?

Thanks a lot everyone :) If anyone has tips for interview let me know cause i did all the process on my own with a little help of my husband and we don't know exactly if what we are planning to bring is correct

For the SSN part....

"When a person who is not a U.S. citizen applies for an original social security number or a duplicate or corrected social security number card, she or he is required to submit, as evidence of alien status, a current document issued by the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services in accordance with that agency’s regulations. The document must show that the applicant has been lawfully admitted to the United States, either for permanent residence or under authority of law permitting him or her to work in the United States (EAD) , or that the applicant’s alien status has changed so that it is lawful for him or her to work."

you can apply for ssn after you get your ead card, it will have a writing on it saying "Valid for work only with DHS autorization" but after greencard you can go back and update it and they will send you a new card with no restrictions.

I got my ssn today. What do I need to get state ID and DL ?

I don't know what the law is in illinois, but in texas you can take your ead card and they will give you the license with the expiration date same as the ead card.
