Hi,

If I get the question below, do I have to know both answers, or just one is ok. I see most questions ask for one or two answers, but there are some that not mention anything and I am curios if you need to know all answers or one is enough.

73. Name the U.S. war between the North and the South.
▪ the Civil War
▪ the War between the States

Thanks?

These types of questions are multiple choice where you choose one. Actually both of these are correct but the conflict is commonly known as the Civil war. The term war between the States was used mostly in the South after the war ended.

I studied for the test and found it pretty easy to pass and it seemed they wanted people to try hard but if there were mistakes made they were mostly forgiven. That's the impression I got from watching and listening to the officers. They were very professional and courteous though out the whole meeting.

We have a Citizenship class in our Adult Education school and the teacher always reminds her students to choose the answer that's easy for them to remember.

e.g Name 3 original states - think of states that have the word New in front of them.

Name one US territory - For Spanish speakers, it's easy for them to pronounce Puerto Rico,

while other students prefer Guam.

If the question requires only one answer, yes.

I meant..say...if the below question is asked..

73. Name the U.S. war between the North and the South.

▪ the Civil War

▪ the War between the States

I just need to answer one of them only..Correct?

Correct.

For questions that ask for multiple answers, you give more than one:

Name three original colonies:

New York, Virginia, Georgia

For questions that ask for one answer, you give one answer:

Name a state that borders Canada:

New Hampshire

The only exception I can think of where the question does not specify multiple answers, but you are expected to give multiple answers, is:

Who did the US fight in World War II?

Germany, Japan, Italy.

In that cases, you are expected to list all three countries because the US fought all three.

Yes. You choose one but as I said in this and in other questions they ask, BOTH are correct so you can not get it wrong.

The one that irks me is:

37. What does the judicial branch do?

  • reviews laws
  • explains laws
  • resolves disputes (disagreements)
  • decides if a law goes against the Constitution
Really, all answers are different and all apply. So in reality, the correct answer is answering all four, but I am sure they are only expecting one of the responses.

While one would do if a person answered by saying all, they would be very pleased because of course they are all functions of the judicial branch.
