requesting help with domicile issue

Hi All,

Im a US citizen living in Israel with my wife, which is the intending immigrent. I was born in the US and have lived in Israel since I was 1 years old.

Me and my wife are looking to relocate to the US and have already sent both packages to the NVC and we are waiting for an interview date.

The thing I fear mostly in our application is the domicile issue.

The evidence I have for steps I have done to re-establish my US domicile:

1) photocopy of SSN card with a issue date of december 2013 showing I applied recently for SSN towards my move to the US.

2) My resume in english - showing I prepared it in english because I want to apply for a job in the US.

3) email correspondence with Facebook NY regarding my application to work there.

4) applying for an early release from the Israeli Army with a the reason - wanting to move abroad with my wife for her studies.

5) email correspondence with a NY motel enquiring about a long stay forthe time we look for an appartment in NY.

6) photocopy of plane tickets for me and my wife

more evidence I plan to have for interview:

1) Giving my father power of attorney over all my affairs in Israel - a step towards a move.

2) Having an order/contract with the motel we will stay at.

stuff Im thinking about: (Do you think it will help??)

1) converting my money to US$ towards the move.

2) writing a affidavit testifing my commitment to re-establishmy domicile not later than the arrival of my wife to the US. signed by notary.

3) Showing research I have done about new york towards moving there.

Things I cant do:

1) have an appartment lease - we dont want to rent from long distance without seeing the appartment and also this very hard/nearly impossible to do long distance.

2) get a job contract - all jobs I want need to interview in the US

3) open a bank account - cant be done from long distance

I would like to ask you if you can help me and answer the following questions:

1) Do you think my evidence are good enough?

2) what do you think about the evidence Im thinking about getting - will those help?

3) Can you offer me any advice or reccomendation?

Thank you for reading and thanks in advance for any reply!!

Ophir

Hi,

We're in a similar-ish situation. Some of the things we are doing to prove intention tomre-establish domicile:

- Copy of social security card

- Copy of quotes for storage units for furniture in Australia

- Copy of quotes for shipping of furniture from Australia to the US

- Letter from family stating we can live with them indefinitely once we arrive

- Copy of travel money card with US dollars purchased

...and a few other things I can't think of off the top of my head right now. Try reading the wiki in the first post in the NVC thread. We got some really good ideas from that, and also searching 'domicile' in the VJ search function.

Good luck!

nothing you are planning to send proves you have set up domicile. An affidavit proves nothing, anyone can write one, converting money means nothing, it can easily be converted back, quotes mean nothing, you need a signed lease, research is only research anyone can use google.

you need to go ahead of your fiance and physically set up domicile, it's the only way
