Hi everyone, I just have a question about the availability of tax transcripts. My husband just filed his taxes this week since he just came back from deployment. I was wondering how long will it take for the 2013 tax transcripts to be available from the IRS for the AOS packet. Thank you.

My husband filed his taxes around March 19th and he just received his return yesterday.. so for the AOS we just used copies of everything he filed in 2013.

Greetings to all VJ members from Bangkok!

I would like to ask something, we have responded to our checklist re our civil docs to NVC, already received and logged in to their system. I asked our lawyer for a copy of my divorce decree translation (translated in the US). When I read it i saw a mistake, my ex husband's name is Suchai and not Surachai, would I get another checklist for that. I hope not. I think it's a minor thing, the translator just added "ra" to the name.

Just wanted to update everyone.

I paper filed my 2013 Federal taxes as MFS with " NRA " where the SSN# goes on March 20.

Noticed my Federal Tax Refund pending in my bank account today.

Went online and downloaded my 2013 Transcript.

Transcript shows Married Filing Separately and where Spouse SSN# should be is blank.

So 21 days total from paper file to transcript. Thanks to Saylin for her expert guidance in this matter

Hi guys I m in bit of confusion my agent sent IV document on 2nd April to NVC ,31 Rochester avenue,portsmouth, boston, USA -03801 this address thru dhl n they received on 7th April person named MUH.M recieved courier . Now I have been calling since yesterday they r sayin we don't know abt ur parcel u need to allow us 10 days . Now m getting angry on my agent first of all he dint write proper address . Guys do u have ny idea how u know that wen did NVC received ur parcel? N how long it takes to enter in the system??? Plz ny reply appreciate

They don't schedule all throughout the month (usually) and April 7 has likely missed the cutoff to get a May date. Probably no interview notification until the end of the month or early May, so ~3 weeks.

My case was received 11-Mar! so hopefully we will get our case # today also or tomorrow!!!!

Edit: did you get the IIN (Invoice Identification number) also?

Your assumption about "we're ok" is incorrect. You may NOT legally file as "single" if you are legally married.

This fact is correct: You cannot e-file MFS or MFJ or married at all when your spouse is a non-resident alien without an SSN. You must print out your return and file it manually until the NRA spouse gets an SSN.

While the IRS may accept the return filed as single, because the IRS does not share information with the USCIS or NVC about your marital status, it may cause the NRA spouse serious grief at the interview, and, in subsequent years, cause the couple great grief with the IRS.

Your husband will need to amend his tax return. You may get through your interview just fine - or you may not. Just get him to go ahead and amend his return now so you can demonstrate that he understands his mistake and is trying to correct it.

Remember, it would be VERY rare to find an accountant that is fully versed in immigration law, just as it would be very rare to find an immigration attorney that is fully versed in tax law.

You make a whole lotta sense. We will refile manually as Married Filing Separately but I hope we can make do and send the one filed 'Single' to NVC first with a letter explaining the situation and informing them that we are in the process of getting it corrected. We're due for our case number any time now and don't want to delay with the AOS package. I'm sure we'd have the corrected one in time for my interview in Kuala Lumpur.

Grr! Silly me! I just called NVC to ask if my AOS had been approved yet and to ask about tax stuff. I'm worried I'll get a checklist for 2013 taxes, but since I live abroad I have until June to submit them. I spent 20 minutes on hold and forgot to ask about tax stuff! Grrr. Stupid stupid.

I'll call again later today.
