Operation Wetback

In 1949 the Border Patrol seized nearly 280,000 illegal immigrants. By 1953, the numbers had grown to more than 865,000, and the U.S. government felt pressured to do something about the onslaught of immigration. What resulted was Operation Wetback, devised in 1954 under the supervision of new commissioner of the Immigration and Nationalization Service, Gen. Joseph Swing.

Swing oversaw the Border patrol, and organized state and local officials along with the police. The object of his intense border enforcement were "illegal aliens," but common practice of Operation Wetback focused on Mexicans in general. The police swarmed through Mexican American barrios throughout the southeastern states. Some Mexicans, fearful of the potential violence of this militarization, fled back south across the border. In 1954, the agents discovered over 1 million illegal immigrants.

In some cases, illegal immigrants were deported along with their American-born children, who were by law U.S. citizens. The agents used a wide brush in their criteria for interrogating potential aliens. They adopted the practice of stopping "Mexican-looking" citizens on the street and asking for identification. This practice incited and angered many U.S. citizens who were of Mexican American descent. Opponents in both the United States and Mexico complained of "police-state" methods, and Operation Wetback was abandoned.

You must have missed that day the history class when they talked about it in high school. The government of the united states gave it the name. Maybe in common core it is taboo. but that is what it was called when I went to school.

Supply and demand Deport and you can pay american workers what they are worth. Around me a roofer is making $20/hr. I traveled in the south and almost everyone is hispanic building houses in tracks. You think they are all legal? It's racist to think all hispanics are good for is working in the fields ..Deport them and pay americans more. Is your president going to do this ... I guess not. Obama is everyones President. How can you criticize him for not pushing a "Black" agenda when it's his job to represent an entire country. Can you imagine if he came out with a jobs plan that focused solely on urban areas, he'd be labeled a reverse bigot or something equally ridiculous.

Obama is the President not a King. We have a broken Congress that for 6 years has done everything in its power to impede our Presidents progress. The majority of the criticisms against him are completely unfair and most Americans have no clue how our government and laws work.

People think the President can just wave a magic wand and fix everything. I gave The Kenyan the benefit of the doubt, his first 2 years, and gave up on him afterwards. He did not get stuff in/through Congress because of his 'not wanting' to compromise on a meaningful level (read, got results) so it makes perfect sense (at least to me) that Congress stonewalled him on every opportunity.

In other social environs, there's that adage of 'you reap what you sow'. Looking at what The Kenyan has reaped, I'll say his sow-ing skills are minimal, almost non-existent.
