Does anyone know if letter from employer is mandatory? I have my tax returns, W-2s, and paystubs as proof of financial support but I'm not sure if I feel comfortable sharing my private life with my boss. Is this really mandatory?

No. We didn't submit an employment letter. No issues.

Unless your petitioner only started on the job (recently hired).

I am the petitioner. I started my job in March 2013. Would that be considered recent?

It's not mandatory. If your tax returns show you're making enough, they're not likely to ask for more evidence. Also, your job contract can be a good substitute for an employment letter if you're uncomfortable asking your boss/HR dept for a letter (you wouldn't need to tell them why you need it, by the way "can I please have a letter confirming I work here and for how much please?" is all you need to say).

No, March 2013 - Feb 2014 is almost one year. You should be fine with what you have.

We also didn't have a letter from my fiance's employer (they refused to write one), and brought his job offer letter instead. No issues there.

No. As long as you have ITR 2012 and W-2. The US embassy didn't even ask my fiance's paycheck statement and another proof of financial supports like stocks and bonds, life insurance policy, and bank statements for his saving at my interview. So, you are just fine go with that.

You'll pretty much breeze through the London embassy. As long as you have other strong supporting evidence you'll be fine.

It is implied by one person in that thread who hasn't even gone through the process yet and has only been a member 2 months. Hardly an expert on what you might expect at a LONDON interview.

If you are an employee and in good terms with the company... I am surprised why the boss/HR would refuse to write such a letter.

By the way, I never stated nor do the instructions of the I-134 state that an employer letter as being mandatory. It's evidence that the adjudicator considers; the more evidence the better. Further, I completed a previous K1 in 2005, all the way through ten-year green card so I've been through all this before. Yes, I am doing it a second time.

Corvusheart my friend I understand your exceeding anxiety, but asking this question over and over again is not going to change anything. Neither you, nor US law can force your employer to write a letter of employment. The people who adjudicate your petition know that and will NOT deny a petition for financial reasons if you produce tax returns and pay stubs. Your employer is an #######-hole. After you complete the process you might want to consider getting a new job. Any boss who treats an employee in this manner deserves for you to fire them.

Then you won't submit one.

Not faulting anything you said. I was pointing out to the worrier that she is grasping information from one post by a person she knows nothing about by looking at your VJ profile. And she assumed you were implying something you weren't.

Exactly, you have other options if they ask for more evidence like pay stubs, cancelled checks, direct deposits, etc. Don't freak yourself out over this.
