do you need a certified copy of your marriage certificate to send in with your i-130?

what about a certified copy of divorce papers? are regular copies of these documents accepted?

You need photocopies of original certified documents.

In addition to the correct information posted above, you should also take original certified copies to your interview since USCIS can ask to inspect them (to compare to the photocopy you submit with your initial application). If they ask for something and you don't have it (say your birth certificate) then they will RFE you for it even at the interview or beyond it.

You need to make sure you are sending all the required documents that are mandatory with the application.

if they need something else, they will ask you.
