DS-160 confusion..

I have searched for answers to this but nothing has come up that is recent. Many changes have happened lately with DS forms.

According to the packet 3 email that I received from the embassy, it directs to a website which asks for DS-156, DS-157 etc.
But upon reading the rest of the attachment, it's asking for the DS-160. In my research of packet 3, I read that the DS-160 replaces the DS-156 etc.
Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Maybe they haven't updated the website with the new instructions? I'm confused a little.

Here's a screenshot of the email attachment they sent:

Ok I found the answer on the DOS website

Effective immediately, all K visa applicants are required to complete the DS-160 Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application. The DS-160 replaces forms DS-156, DS-156K, and DS-230.

For K visa cases already in process at a U.S. embassy or consulate, the DS-160 is not required when, prior to October 7, 2013, one of the following situations exist:
  • The K visa applicant is already scheduled for an interview.
  • The K visa applicant has already been interviewed and has been requested to submit additional documentation or is pending administrative processing.
  • The K visa applicant has already submitted a valid, signed, unexpired DS-156, DS-156K and/or DS-230 or received instructions to do so.

Hi, we are in Australia too and I did notice that the US Embassy Canberra site still refers to the old forms, despite the clear info from DOS that you mentioned re: going to DS-160.

I've been curious to know what the Sydney Consulate tells us, since it's technically up to them to direct us what to fill out. I had already filled out the old forms, so have been working on the DS-160 and other docs - we're ready depending on which ones to use, haha!

Thanks for sharing the details of the email you received - looks like we will be getting ours pretty soon as well - I've already found it on DHL and it's on the way!

Yeah its very confusing. Glad your case is in transit. I got packet 3 (well, my US fiance got it and forwarded it to me) the next day after the DHL said it had been signed for.

I also found this, so i'll be ready with the old forms, which I have done already, and the DS-160. When they update somethings, they need to do them all... stop the confusion.

When I apply for a nonimmigrant visa using the online DS-160, are additional forms required?

No, with one exception. When applying at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate that is using the new DS-160, Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application, you will use only one form. For Embassies and Consulates that have converted to this new process, the DS-160 has replaced all of the following forms: DS-156, DS-157, DS-158, and DS-3032, which are no longer necessary. Note: The exceptions are Fiancee Visas (K-1/2) which still require use of the forms DS-156 and DS-156K, and the Treaty Trader/Treaty Investor visa application.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Once again, I am still confused.

-we only fill in DS-160,

-we dont bring ds 156 and ds156k for the interview,

-we dont send ds230 back to emabssy after recieving the 3rd package.

Now it seems so less forms, actually only one and before this change there were a lot.

Or maybe it would be good to fill the other forms and take them to the interview just in case?

And most importainly, I understand that the changes are in EVERY US consulate in the world? Just want to know, because the embassy site is not completely updated. Some information are still old.

Hello

We just did ours and all you need to do is DS-160 it is really easy and much better then having to fill out all the other forms. You just need to print the conformation page and take that with you to the interview along with the other required documents. After the DS-160 is done you can pay your visa fee and schedule your interview appointment. Pretty easy!!!!

According to my packet 3 I was confused also... but upon reading the DSL-1076, the DS-156, DS-156k etc is still needed with that form. I'm going to do them all and they can discard all the ones that they dont need. Better to be prepared, id say.

I will keep you updated. I'll be ready to send in packet 3 in about 2 weeks. I'm waiting on Dr. appointment to have 2 more vaccinations (Dr. Charles advised me that it would be cheaper to get them done back home and fax thru a certificate to say that had been done for him to send my medical results back to me)

i think i will do the same. i have my medical on Friday so looks like we might be looking at a similar timeline! Where did you do your medical and how did it go? Im in Melbourne.

I'm in East gippsland and I travelled to Melb for my medical with Dr. Charles (Bridge Street). He was very nice. I got there 1 hr early as you need to do some paperwork before you go in to see him). I also had 3 children for the medicals too. I think it went ok. had blood test done, xray for myself and routine checkup. He goes thru all the paperwork with you, but be prepared that you may be i there for while. So the 2hrs car parks may not be enough time. There are all day parking around the corner.

We went to the Bridge Street Clinic in Port Melbourne with Dr Charles. It went fine - it did take the full 2 hours, but that was largely due to waiting between Chest Xray, blood draw, and then for Dr Charles to see him. Everyone was polite. There's plenty of 2 hour parking on the streets around the clinic. You may want to bring a book or magazine - the mobile phone reception inside was poor, so we had a hard time using the smartphones, haha!
