London I-134 Self Co-Sponsor

Hello,

I realise this has been gone over quite a bit, however as I've pieced most of it together from all of the place I wanted to put it down all in one to make sure I've got it right.

We're looking at how to complete the I-134 as part of a K-1.

My sponsor is currently unemployed, so we are going for assets as proof.

This means we need 5x 125% of the current poverty line, which according to this government website for 2 people (Sponsor and I) is $15,510

That comes out at ((15,510/100)*125)*5= $96937.5

If the sponsor has over this amount in shares, will a statement from her financial advisor suffice?

Despite no longer being in that job, I believe we also need to include her tax return from the previous year?

I also have sufficient savings to self sponsor, so as a just in case I am thinking I may as well prepare for that also.

I believe for that I require 12 months of statements, average balance, details of large deposits, totals of withdrawals and deposits.

There appears to be no form for this, so is it a case of paper clip it them together with a nice summary sheet of my own creation?

Does that all look correct?

Cheers!

Additionally, for the I-134 it states

"I have stocks and bonds with the following market value, as indicated on the attached list, which I certify..."

Is "the attached list" of your own/financial advisor creation or is there something official I am missing?

Also, despite not having a formal valuation on our US property, shall we include it as a rough estimate or just leave it off?

Cheers!

You will find it is not nearly as complicated for a K1 in London. There are no formulas for a specific amount for an I -134. What you are configuring is an amount needed for a joint sponsor for a spouse visa or your adjustment of status from K1 using the I-864. On that one, when the time comes, it is 3 times the poverty figure for a spouse and five times for somebody else as a joint sponsor.

The affidavit of support for a fiancé has little in the Foreign Affairs Manual other than to say the officer must be convinced you will not become a public charge. A statement from her broker would likely suffice. A tax return would be good showing her past earnings if they are good, but is not required in London. You are correct, there is no form for the non-US person who wants to self sponsor. Just show them the money in a convincing way. Twelve months of bank statements is probably over the top for London. Perhaps one from 12 months, 6 months, and most recent would make you feel more comfortable, but they don't call in Scotland Yard to investigate your sources and motives.

Yep - it was pretty easy in my case. I was well documented in terms of my house sale in the UK (which has now fallen through...) at which point they weren't interested in anything else. I'd taken one over the counter bank statement as that was the most upto date and they seemed pretty happy with that until they saw the house stuff and just used that.

I would say the key thing is to make it easy for them - have a clear summary document with appropriate supporting evidence. Huge amounts of stuff does not make it easy and imho they just want to make sure you (and they) are covered until the real affidavit with AOS - they just about said that to me.

I certainly didn't provide the incredible detail they ask for on the website.

As always YMMV - I had a chunk of change in my house equity and I'm that's what did it. Certainly cleared any thresholds.

My Fiancee had enough income however I took in a print out of my US dollar account and they were very happy to take that as well. I had more than enough in there on my own. So, yes, take some sort of evidence of assets of your own. Mine was a print out I got from the bank dated a few days prior to interview.
