Fox & Friends co-host Anna Kooiman apologized on Saturday for airing a false story about President Barack Obama personally funding a Muslim museum through the shutdown, a story that turned out to have been published by the satirical website National Report.

“Last weekend, we mentioned a story about the President funding a Muslim museum during the shutdown,” Kooiman said. “We made a bad mistake by reporting a story based on poor research that was not true. We apologize for not checking the facts, and for allowing the story to make air.”

But that's what they do day in and day out at Fox News. They should then be apologizing daily for the bunk and garbage they dished out the day before.

All shows on Fox cable news are operated by Fox news channel. Fox cable news is NOT just a station that shows random shows. It is all sourced through Fox news.

Furthermore, all Fox shows are given talking points by the higher ups, things they must discuss on their shows. That creates an environment where the shows appear different but discuss the same things, which leads people to believe that the issues they discuss are important issues. But really, those issues are deemed "important" by a team of whoever, or by Murdoch himself.

So should this scrutiny of Non-news programing also extend to balance of reporting and advertisers?

Clearly being duped by such a story is embarrassing, but I think elevating the show to "News programing" is in its self a misstatement of the facts.

There is no claim that I know of that Shawn Hannity is "fair and balanced" in the same way no one expects Rachel Madcow over at MSNBS to be fair and accurate.

These are political entertainment shows, not news.

I don't know who Rachel Maddow is and I don't watch MSNBC. The fact that "fox viewers" think that is where "Libs" get their information is just proof of the "fox news machine" telling people what they want them to know, despite its lack of veracity.

But yes, we can agree that Fox news is not news, but vapid entertainment.

The problem is though, that they call themselves "news" and give information is though it is "news."

Jon Stewart always says he runs a comedy show, and laughs that people (namely fox) take his comedy show so seriously. Fact of the matter is, though, that Jon Stewart is extremely bright and his team does know how to vette facts. But his real facts are all mixed up with jokes, and he doesn't ever try to hide that.

I don't have cable and I wouldn't watch cable news anyway. I have noticed lately that people complain about MSNBC being a "left conspiracy" and talking about this woman a lot. I've never seen her or heard her talk.

Indeed. Sort of makes me wonder what all the fuss is about for the most fleeting of moments. Then... meh.

I do think it's odd people think I can only come to my opinions because of what talking heads on the news say. That teaches me about how other people form their opinions. It was a rather strange day when I realized that.
