Hi everyone,

This is my first time posting on this site so let me know if there is a better forum for this!

I (USC) filed for my Canadian fiancee's K1 visa back in February and so far everything has gone as expected. I got the notice from NVC on 8/20 saying she would get a packet from Montreal soon on how to apply for the visa. The status checker has said since 8/26 that Montreal is ready to schedule her interview, however she still has not gotten anything from them. I assume they mailed out "packet 3" when the status checker was updated so I'm getting kind of worried that something is wrong, (lost in the mail, etc.) She lives in PEI but I can't imagine it would take that long for mail to arrive from Montreal. Has anyone else experienced this?

I submitted a question through MTL's public inquiry form but it looks like it will be at least a week or so before I get a response. Can I call NVC or at this point is everything handled through the consulate? With all the stories I hear about how long it can take to schedule an interview at Montreal we are starting to get nervous since we are planning on getting married in March 2014.

Thanks for any info anyone can give me!

did you send packet 3 back to the embassy with all the requested documents? I just went to the same process in Montreal and got approved last month. I can answer some of your question.

Thanks for the response!

Unfortunately she has not yet received packet 3 so we haven't been able to respond to it yet. Just curious Jsillat, did you have to wait long after getting the initial notice from NVC before you received packet 3? I saw some posts where applicants had never received packet 3 and just went ahead without it and sent all the documents listed on the Montreal website. I'm considering doing that but I don't want to cause any confusion and delay things further.

I did not wait long... about 2-3 weeks but you should call them to see if they receive your file from the NVC.If you can get confirmation that the embassy receives the information then you can give yourself a week to receive package 3. most people, including myself, send the package 3 as soon as we get confirmation that the us embassy in Montreal received our case from NVC. All the information for package 3 can be found at the embassy website.

Do not wait on MTL for anything...ever...you'll only be waiting forever. We have not received Packet 3 from MTL.

Just download Packet 3 from MTL's website and fill it out. We filled ours out, mailed it in XPressPost, still waited ~8 days for them to log it, and are interviewing October 7.

We never received any physical mail from them, and many people have communicated with them via email for the entire process as we did. I would suggest emailing them (Montreal-IV-DV@state.gov) with your MTL case number and request that they use your email for all future communications. Then, as the previous user stated, download packet 3 http://photos.state.gov/libraries/canada/303578/montreal/Packet3-K1-MTL.pdf and get to work.

You can check my siggy for my timeline - its rather close to yours. MTL sent out my Packet 3 on Sept 4th and I got it via snail mail on Sept 13th.

Even though the CEAC website says "ready to schedule interview" - that's not the case until you have:

1.) Submitted Packet 3 to MTL

2.) They log, approve it and send you a Packet 4 (with instructions to schedule an interview).

When MTL received your case, they send a letter to the petitioner notifying them that its there and that the beneficiary will be receiving Packet 3.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for all of the information!

I still have not heard back from the email I sent through the online form but it does not sound like I will be hearing back anytime soon.

I think we are going to take the advice and just send out the packet 3 found on the website with the courier services. The only question I have is that I am not 100% sure they actually sent packet 3/are expecting it. All the CEAC tracker says is that Montreal is ready to schedule the interview. Can I take that to mean they think they have already sent out packet 3/are expecting to receive it back? I noticed that some of you knew the exact date Montreal "logged" receipt of the completed packet 3. Does CEAC update to show that or is there somewhere else you guys are checking on that? I tried calling NVC to get information but all they would tell me is that Montreal had probably received the approved I-129f.

Thanks for all the help! Its great to hear we are not the only ones going through this!

Call the Department of State visa line (they are way nicer, 202-485-7600) and ask if your case has physically arrived at MTL and if Packet 3 has been logged.

Thanks! I will give them a call. Also, it looks like some of you used xpresspost rather than the free loomis services. My fiancee is in PEI, 2-3 hours from nearest loomis location so I think we are going to just send it xpresspost as well. Did you guys just send it US Consulate General Attn IV Unit to the "place d'youville" address?

Thanks again!

Awesome! Allanah and Chris: you talk about a cover letter, was this just something you made yourselves or was it something you filled out and returned with packet three? If so I was just going to type something with our info to organize it so they know what to do with it

Hello Everyone,

We have a similar timeline as with you guys. We waited for packet 3 but eventually went ahead and sent it in without recieving anything (we still haven't). Does anyone know how long it takes for them to log packet 3? Also, trying to get a gist for interview dates, I've heard that more openings come out on the start of the month, maybe? (Of course you can always check nonstop to reschedule) Does anyone know how late the interviews are being scheduled?
