Does age difference affect approval?

Hello to everyone!

This is my first post. I filed our I-129F on August 23rd. I've read (googleing around the internet) that an age difference can be a reason for rejection of the application. Of course now i'm worried about it. My fiance is younger than I am and our age difference probably wouldn't be an issue if it was the man who was younger but that's not the case. Does anyone know if age difference matters for any reason?

If your relationship is bonafide, then you have nothing to worry about.

You'll find plenty of men here with younger wives - it's no problem.

If anything, for some very high-fraud consulates, it's cases the other way round that tend the be the flag - young men marrying women who are no longer of child-bearing age (culturally, this can be very odd in some places and a thing that can be considered a flag - there was a thread on here just yesterday with folks discussing this situation).

But even people in those scenarios, where there may be extra scrutiny, are able to over come it if their evidence is strong and their relationship is clear. :)

You'll be fine! What kind of evidence are you putting into your petition? Have you read the K1 guide and the suggestions of what you should include to show how bonafide your relationship is?

My advice -- show concern to the embassy for your fiance/e. My wife is a decade older than I am (I was the petitioner, she is the immigrant). I emailed the embassy a lot asking a lot of questions, and they told her how much I worried about her and how much I cared about her. Little to say, she flew through the interview.

What would Xenu do?

Oh, also, forgot to mention - the age difference is unlikely to come up during the petition phase - they're mostly examining whether you meet the criteria to approve the petition (met in 2 years, can marry, will marry etc.). If questions do come up - not saying they will - it'll be at the interview stage. I wouldn't stress it though, as I say, so long as you include some good relationship evidence.

I've worried a bit about this too. My husband is 13 years older than I am. But I'm sure as long as you have enough evidence (photos, emails, affidavits, ect...) then there isn't too much to worry about.

They do this stuff daily, I'm sure that they can tell who's real and who's not, by now. I wouldn't freak over it. Just be prepared! good.gif

*As Lost_At_Sea stated, this stuff is more for the interview, than the petition* :)

Oh, for sure. I'm totally cocky about it now, but I was having a minor mental breakdown just before mine, so I know the feeling.

HONESTLY, though, a 13 year age gap (particularly with the man being older) is *not* a big deal. London won't care.

Thanks guys for responding. Yes our relationship is very real, we met at work while I was living in Argentina and we moved in together. Now I'm back home and we decided to marry. There are pics and proof of us having gone on vacations together and there is nothing at all that should raise any red flags the way I see it. Fingers crossed they'll see we're legit. I'll keep you posted and thanks again for the responses

Yeah! I remember you lurking around the site helping everyone out, to get your mind off of it :D

Looking back I feel so horrible I bugged you so much to help me out! You must've been so preoccupied with your own worries!

Without your help, I would've been toast!

I am 20 years older than my fiancee and he was approved today without AP

I truly believe if the relationship is real and you have lots of documented proof

than no worries - i think i over did the proof just to be on the safe side.

good luck

Catie: Nono, don't feel bad. Going around telling other people not to be so silly is a great way to try and convince yourself of the same (even if it didn't work).

The Freckle: I think you'll be fine. Have you got passport stamps and boarding passes and stuff? Those are really good meeting evidence (you'll be wanting that). Photos and trips together are good true-relationship stuff! The fact that you lived together before is *really* good - do you still have a rental agreement or something from those days?

Yes I did submit hotel bills, passport and bus tickets and city tours for places we went together. The thing that sucks is that in the city where we lived its extremely difficult to rent an apartment unless you know the person renting it so all that is done in cash and in a very under the table kind of way (its weird, I know) so there's not really official paperwork showing we were renting a place together. I guess there is no real proof. A friend of mine came to Argentina to visit me while I lived there and we took her everywhere, she wrote a worn affidavit and also submitted pictures of all of us together. I hope that is helpful as well.

Try not to worry too much. Argentina isn't a notorious fraud country, and you're likely not to have issues.
