I have just checked the mail and I have received a letter from the USCIS. A Notice of Potential Interview Waiver Case.

Our nearest invterview place is about 4hrs away so to not have to interview in a sense would be great but does anyone know why I would have recieved this? It says that "we may not need to interview you to complete your application. However, if we later determine that an interview is required, we will schedule an interview appointment".

It also states that workload factors means a delay to be approximatley 6 months. Does this mean I could potentially not have an interview but in 6 months receive my GC?

Has anyone else receieved this notice before?

I received the same one.

It just tells you they're being super slow and that it will be appr another 6 months for your to receive a further notice from them. Which could either be an interview or just a notice of "you've been approved and the green card is in production".

Mine says the same thing about it being protentially an interview waiver case and I know there were quite a few who receive the same letter so I don't know if they really waive that many but I'm taking it as a positive that it says that. Plus I was just glad to hear something cause there's plenty of people waiting a long time without hearing anything.

It's a standard letter they send out when adjusting from a K visa (because you were interviewed overseas) or file an I-751. And yes, that's what the letter means.

They did not used to send out any letters to let you know, This seems to be a recent USCIS notification, You were either approved without interview by receiving your approval notice, or you were sent an interview letter. It seems to be random and about a 50/50 chance to not have an interview, if you are adjusting from a K-1. Currently, those that have an interview seem to be getting their green cards faster. It is possible to wait for months and then have your case sent to your local USCIS office for an interview anyway. Those cases seem to be less frequent though,

Thanks for the information. I am indeed adjusting from a K1 visa and although its nice to have some form of contact from USCIS I'm not 100% happy to have that 50/50 chance.

Just hope things start speeding up especially as my husband may deploy again soon. I don't want to wait 6 months then have them say I need an interview as its my knowledge both husband and wife need to be present at the interview right? If he deploys again soon then I may be up the creek without a paddle!

If your husband is deployed on US military service then he will not be required to be at your AoS interview.

You can contact them and show a copy of his orders in case that happens. They make exceptions for military personnel that are deployed and cannot attend an interview. Most likely since you were sent the waiver notice, you will be approved without interview though.
