Delaying the Visa

After numerous attempts to contact the US embassy in London I am turning to a blog to answer my question.

If anyone could help I would be very grateful.

My US fiancee and I (UK citizen) filed a petition for a K-1 visa in January 2013 with the intention of marrying as soon as the whole visa situation was sorted out.

The petition has been accepted and I now have to file for an interview in London in order to gain the visa to marry. This is all fine. However, due to work commitments we cannot get married until August 2014. Due to the fact the visa takes approximately 6 months to process and I am already at the stage where I am filing for an interview does this mean that I need to try and delay the visa process so we can get married next August? I am worried that if the visa comes through in say December that it would expire before we marry. If I am right in thinking that they are valid for 6 months and then 90 days once you enter the country then perhaps delaying the visa would be a good option? Can you delay a visa?

Yes, 6 months to use the visa then 90 days to marry.

Have you done your medical yet? You can delay the interview some, just ask for a late date,

Your visa will be valid for 6 months from the date of your medical. London will not schedule an interview until you have completed the medical.

You haven't completed a timeline, so I'm not certain at what specific stage you're at. Have London received your file? What is the 'expiry date' on your NOA2?

Thanks guys,

I'm due to send my paperwork off to London so it can be processed and then I will get an interview (after my medical).

I have until November 8th until the petition runs out. I was wondering whether I should delay sending this stuff until November so that it will stall my interview and therefore stall the issuing of the visa.

Get a hold of someone at the consulate...check on the regional forums to see if someone has a contact or something there.

You can extend the petition approval at that point, I'll be doing that myself (darn you house!!). Keep trying, calling, emailing, whatever it takes.
