Just read this in an email - the Printed DS-230 is going away as of September 3, 2013 which is this coming Teusday.
I think if your IV documents have been accepted by then they won't make you do it again, if they haven't been accepted yet then they might!

DOS Rolls Out DS-260 Online Immigrant Visa Application to Most Applicants

The Department of State (“DOS”) has reported that they are transitioning to an online immigrant visa application as ofSeptember 3, 2013. Immigrant visa applicants who are processing their immigrant visas (green cards) through the National Visa Center (NVC)/U.S. Consulate will now need to complete the DS-260 form online (Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration). Similarly, the Form DS-261 (Choice of Address and Agent) form will be online as well.
The online DS-260 form was, until now, used only for immigrant visa applicants for a few selected consulates. With the upcoming transition, after September 3, 2013, DOS will require most immigrant visa applicants to complete the DS-260 form online (as opposed to the paper DS-230 form). Only Diversity Visa and Cuban Family Reunification Parole applicants will continue to use the paper forms (DS-230). It is important to note that nonimmigrant visa applicants (B-1, H-1B, L-1, etc.) should still continue to use the DS-160 electronic application.
NVC Pending Cases
For those immigrant visa applicants who have a case pending with NVC already, NVC may instruct some applicants who previously submitted Form DS-230 on paper to submit Form DS-260 online.

I think this warrants a separate thread so we can discuss it separately.

Here are some links related to DS-260:

Like many, I am waiting for NVC to assign case number thus have not submitted the DS-230 yet.

At this point, I know very little about the DS-260 online form itself, how different in comparison to DS-230, etc.

One can only hope that the requirements is the same as the DS-230 since apparently DS-260 has been/can be used if your beneficiary interviews with certain US embassies.

This sounds bit contradictory. Yes I know that everywhere it is said that one should submit DS-260 online since paper version is abandoned. Nevertheless, today I placed IV Processing Fee order and got the receipt. The receipt shows the next steps to do and among them the form to fill out. What they say is:

When the IV fee payment status is PAID, each applicant must submit an

Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration. If your case was

initiated after October 4, 2010 and your case number begins with AMM, ATH,

BGH, LMA, MEP, or MTL you must submit your visa application form online.

Otherwise you must submit the paper version of the form.

Notice the italics. Either those instructions are out of date else I don't know whom to trust... My case is for sure submitted after October 4, 2010 AND my case number does not begin with any of those three letter codes.

Any suggestions? Experience?

Thank you, guys!

My case was submitted after October 4, 2010 and my case number does not begin with any of those three letter codes. Three days ago I received a letter from NVC. They wrote that I have to fill in DS-260.

All traveling immigrant visa applicants on your case are required to complete and submit the DS-260
Online Immigrant Visa Application. The DS-260 Online Immigrant Visa Application replaces the
paper-based DS-230 Immigrant Visa Application. The DS-260 must be completed when NVC is still
missing documents or information to complete your case. You must complete the DS-260 in order to be
eligible for a visa interview.
You will find instructions for submitting the required forms and supporting civil documents at
Please note the applicant will need the following information to access and complete the DS-260:
· NVC case number
· Invoice identification number
· Beneficiary identification number for each traveling applicant
If you are unsure of, or no longer have, the required identification numbers please contact the NVC by
email at nvcinquiry@state.gov or by telephone at 603-334-0700 and we will provide them to you.
To avoid delaying your visa(s) we urge you to send the required supporting civil documents, for all
applicants, together in a single submission as soon as possible after submitting the DS-260.
Your case may be involved with paperless processes for submitting forms and documents. At this time,
the availability of paperless processing is limited to selected U.S. Embassies and Consulates. A list of
participating Embassies and Consulates can be found at

Ds 230 is discontinued since October 2013. You only do ds 260 online on ceac.state.gov. Ds 230 is no longer valid.
