In many instances, one has gotten away with the use of that label in a carefully worded, veiled personal-attack, which no one thinks to report.

Personally, I don't want to ban anything, I am just trying to find out if VJ considers this a valid and useful nomenclature as they seem very keen on enforcing some rules but not others. Just saying.

Actually, after discussion with the moderation team, we realize we have been someone inconsistent with the use of certain epithets like this and the equivalent 'Repuglican', along with other equally offensive and insulting descriptors. When they have been reported as being used as an insult against a VJ member we have responded and removed the post. When they have been used more generically against a segment of society, we have not always removed the post but in retrospect, should have, although we have left warnings in the thread.

I suppose you could accuse us as being a little too 'liberal' in these situations, but this will no longer be the case.

Members here are more than capable of expressing their opinions without resorting to the use of personal attacks, insults or derogatory labels. From now on, when the inclusion of these particular derogatory names are used in a post directed at either an individual or applied to a 'generic' group, and the post is either reported to us or we are otherwise informed or become aware of it, the post will be removed and treated like any other TOS violation.

Just because a TOS violation has not made it to our 'radar screen' it does not mean it is acceptable. It still violates the Terms of Service.

There's plenty of names thrown around in P&R or CT or whatever it's called. RWNJ, **, whatever. I don't know why anyone would want to censor things like that. It says alot about the poster. If people want to post things that make themselves look silly, why stop them? Those terms are usually thrown out there when the poster can't form an intelligent response in a political debate. If someone calls me a RWNJ or ** in a political debate, that signal's to me that person has lost the debate and only has personal insults left, so in my mind it's helpful.

I feel like VJ mods should have been taxed too much with the kindergarten teacher responsibility. Due to complaints we now have mods combing over the controversial threads looking for people calling each other less than offensive names? I'll have to keep in mind calling someone a poo poo head can get me thread banned. Ridiculous. Too much

true. But people use words to oppress others. There should be certain standards. Jews who were called Yids and sent to concentration camps may have won the battle morally but still got killed. Same for blacks in S African. Someone has to draw the line as to what is acceptable and as to what is not. why is there an UN if not to establish such rules of conduct?

Well, it's all fun and games for those with the superior skills in the 'veiled personal attacks' . For some, tis a high-art. They've skills. Still, it takes a particular motivation to 'go that far'.
