HOUSTON — Colion Noir belongs to the NRA and owns several guns, including a sleek Glock 17 handgun and a customized AR-15 rifle. But as Noir frequently points out, he does not fit the stereotype of NRA members, or what he calls OFWG: “Old, fat white guys.”

At 29, he’s not old. Nor is he fat — he’s slender and stylishly dressed with sneakers made by Prada. He’s also not white.

Gun control advocates dismiss him as an NRA pawn, and some blacks accuse him of being an Uncle Tom. But to many at the convention, Noir demonstrated a historic diversity among gun owners that defies stereotypes.

After Noir left the talk-show stage, fans approached to shake hands and pose for photographs. Most were white. A handful of them, like Quentin Smith, were black.

“Congratulations,” said Smith, 44, a gun owner from Cypress. “There’s a few of us out there.”

The NRA does not release membership demographics, but according to a Pew Research Center survey, many gun owners in America are white — 31 percent of whites polled this year said they owned guns, compared with 15 percent of blacks and 11 percent of Latinos.

“This is one tie that binds all of us together,” said NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam, describing the group as “the oldest civil rights organization in America.”

Arulanandam noted that the NRA also recently signed on a woman and a young veteran as commentators who speak to other growing demographics within the ranks of gun owners. He said the NRA did not choose Noir because of his race.

This is one tie that binds all of us together, said NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam, describing the group as the oldest civil rights organization in America.

Not listed here or here, but they are listed on Wikipedia, which show how incredible a source that really is.

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, or NAACP (founded as the National Negro Committee), is the oldest surviving national civil rights organization in the United States. It was established on February 12, 1909 on the centennial of Abraham Lincoln's birth. The National Rifle Association, or NRA, has begun to lay claim to this designation based on their 1871 founding date. However, while the NRA was founded to "promote and encourage rifle shooting on a scientific basis" the NAACP was established for the express purpose of protecting the civil rights of non-whites. The NRA did not involve itself in the politics of the second amendment until the 1930's. So, while the NRA existed prior to the founding of the NAACP, it did not function as a civil rights organization until well after the NAACP began its civil rights work.

Acutally this video came out after TM/GZ, I know because I posted it here. If he wants to do that, it's his choice, doesn't mean I have to agree with it.

I never said you have to agree with you, what I meant was they were trying to make him the poster boy but he had been doing videos long before the incident.

Some of his videos are interesting, I have seen couple.. I have not seen the one you are talking about, might watch it after work.

If you do a search, I post it here a while ago. I have no problem with gun rights, I just think there are some out there who shouldn't have them.

will I be banned if I call him an Uncle Tom?

Yes, because it's a racial slur.

Actually, I have no problems with his manner or dress or speaking. I just think his stance on the NRA is a bit crooked.

Roy Innis and his son, Roy Innis Jr. are former and current Presidents of the Congress of Racial Equailty (CORE) and have been/are NRA board members for decades.

The NRAs diversity is one reason that they have been so successful in their efforts. These silly attempts to throw rocks at them because they ripped off your heads and spit down your necks make you appear pathetic.

all the same to me...as long as you continue to fail miserably, I'm happy. The rest is BS.
