K1 AOS Interview Waiver Policy Change from NBC to Local Field Offices

I finally received further clarification on my wife's K1 AOS petition, which may be useful information to some of you in a similar situation. There has been a policy change for K1 interview waiver cases that were typically handled at the NBC. Below is what I received back from my congressman's office when they contacted the Local Field Office in Indianapolis. Now it is a waiting game to see which of the three below will apply.

As discussed on Tuesday, I left a message with USCIS regarding your case. This afternoon, after connecting with USCIS, I have the following update.

As it was explained to me, the NBC has traditionally processed K1 interview waiver cases but recently a policy shift was made to send them to field offices. Yours was not the only case sent to one of five USCIS field offices, and it does not automatically mean that you will be called for an interview. I was told that all cases sent to Indianapolis will be “touched” within three weeks. This means that within three weeks the cases will be reviewed with one of the three following outcomes:

  1. If “approvable,” the case is approved without interview.
  2. If more information is needed, a request will be made to the applicant.
  3. If it is determined that an interview is needed, an interview will be scheduled.

We also discussed the memo, and you are correct: The current medical exam should suffice if the case is adjudicated by September 2013.

Sorry for the confusion, but does this mean cases that were there waiting were sent to the local offices?

Mine was, so if your was in the same waiver interview pile, then most likely yes since there was a policy change. Make an INFOPASS appointment and go to your local field office to have them check for you. I don't trust the NBC.

Which five field offices received the AOS?

Wondering about the same... "Field Office" would imply to me the local office where we had our biometrics, but the "five field offices" deal confuses me...

Perhaps he meant to say five SERVICE CENTERS? There are certainly more than 5 field offices in the U.S. and it does not look like there are 5 in the state of Indiana. But there are five service centers: Vermont, Texas, California, Nebraska, and National Benefits Center (NBC).

Supposed to be Local Field Offices. I am still waiting. Mine was at the NBC and sent to the Indianapolis Local Field Office.

I just started a new topic about all of this and all I needed to do was read this post! Haha

I put in a service request and had someone call me back from my local field office in Houston. They told me that my case was transferred on June 27th. So, RickJovi seems to have the correct information. Looks like our cases that have been sitting at NBC for months and months are now just being passed on to the field offices for a final decision.

Frustrating.

I wonder how long they will sit at the local field offices? Do they get put into a stack again only to wait?
