Long story short, we got lucky in our k-1 journey and are doing things a few months earlier than I expected. We received notice of NOA2 on Friday. I know it will take time to reach NVC & the embassy, but we are wondering if anyone can give us some advice/insight on how long it takes to get an interview at Vancouver once they receive packet 3? I, the petitioner, really want to be there for a lot of reasons, but mainly, this is the big shebang we've been waiting for. The only thing is, I'm not out of my 90 day probationary period at work until the second week of September, and trying to find a cheepish flight.

Also, is it possible to do medical one day and interview the next? I keep seeing conflicting info on this. Or is it possible for him to do the medical a few weeks in advance and have them mail the results to him? He lives on Vancouver Island, and that would be feasible.

Thanks for any and all help. We weren't really expecting to hear anything for another month or two, so I'm a bit behind in my research, though we do have everything except for record of his immunizations. Hopefully we'll have that this week.

You'll get the packet pretty quickly after they receive packet 3--same day, if all is in order. The packet 4 gives you the go-ahead to pay the fee and book the interview. Once you pay the visa fee, you are able to access the interview calendar and pick your day. When I did it, there was a space available 3 days later and 4 days later! That was a bit soon for me. The next available one was a week after that and then the next one was 2 weeks later. i chose the one week later one. There are lots to pick and choose from. Then, you make arrangements with Dr. Cheema, letting him know the interview date and they will give you an appointment 2-4 days before the interview. They are aware that people don't want to spend a lot of extra time waiting around in Vancouver between the medical and interview. It takes until after 4 pm the day after your medical before you're able to pick up your results, so no, you can't do the medical the day before the interview. Even 2 days might be pushing it if you find you need some documents at the medical that you don't have (happened to me).

I was able to book my medical 2 days before my interview. You will need that two days. When you e-mail Dr. Cheema's office you will have to tell them your interview date and tell them you want your medical 2 days before. I did the same thing and it wasn't a problem. I think if you're firm, and give enough notice you'll be good. Vancouver isn't as busy as Montreal and there are usually tons of dates to work with.

I concur. I cannot speak to the interview but just had my medical with Dr. Cheema a couple of weeks ago. They are very flexible about dates but you can only work with them through e-mail.

They will give you the medical, send you for bloodwork and chest x-ray and tell you to pick it up no sooner than the end of the next day.

Thanks for the advice. Looks like he'll be making two trips to Vancouver, one for medical and one for the interview when I'm there or he'll be in Vancouver a few days before me.

And one more question, once we get the number from NVC, we can email the embassy and they'll email packet 3? Or do we wait until they receive the physical file?

By the way, I did not wait for my medical. It cost an additional $20 to have it couriered to me and I got it a few business days later.

Well I just got my number from NVC on Friday and emailed the Vancouver embassy the same day saying I have my case number and if its possible to receive packet 3. They replied to my email this morning and said they have yet to receive the approved petition and to email back requesting for packet 3 in a few weeks. (Though I believe it should only take a week for the embassy to receive it?) I know that its in transit now I just checked.

It takes about a week or so for Vancouver to receive the file and enter it into their system once NVC sends it off. Vancouver is excellent though with their communication and they are pretty on top of things once things get rolling.
