Medical in London?

Hi.My k-1 visa was approved this week but Just wondered about my medical?Obviously I will get all this info soon but I read a story about one UK guy who had to go to London just for his medical!Apparently the Embassy arranges where you get your medical?I thought I would be able to get a medical from my local GP.Since I live in Scotland it would be a real pain to travel to London for my medical and then go back a few weeks later for my interview!Maybe someone can clarify this for me,thanks.

Also I will need immunised,but I gather that my own Doctor can do this.

You book the medical. The medical DOES happen in London and London only as they use a specific pair of Doctor's offices. The interview will be scheduled a few weeks after by the embassy once they've got your medical results and all the forms back you have to send them.

These are the instructions you'll receive in a letter (referred to as "Packet 3"), along with your LND number (LND followed by 10 numbers). You need the LND number to book your medical: http://london.usembassy.gov/iv_15.html

Your own doctor can do your jabs, check the medical information (also found on the link above, click "medical examination" from the left hand menu, and then look on the right side of that page for the PDF with all the medical information in it) for a list of the jabs you'll need (for an adult, it's basically 2 doses of MMR and a tetanus in the last 10 years - you may well have already had these). Ask your doctor for a vaccination record.

P.S. If you haven't already - order your police certificate(s). You'll also need this for the medical and it takes a little while to arrive if you don't premium process.

Yeah basically what Lost at Sea said.

It has to be in Knightsbridge London (unfortunately as I live in Wales) so ill be staying at a hotel the night before. And then ill have to do the same for my interview probably a month later.

It's a slightly silly way to do it, but an important distinction to make. The I129f is only half the battle. Lots of people think they have a visa with only that approved and find themselves disappointed at the amount of work they have to put in afterwards to finish the process. It's good for folks who later search for, and find, this thread (maybe without having read anything else) to know exactly what everyone is referring to. Good data last longer!

Yes,Lost At Sea,I obtained my police records last month (Subject Access Request).That raised another question last month too actually.I read somewhere on here that someone got SAR and it was the wrong police report?From what I understand,England use ACPO and Scotland use SAR.Not sure about the rest of the UK.

I am unfamiliar with anything Scotland specific, BUT if you were following the London guidelines word for word, they only mention the ACPO police certificate, so I would assume that is the one you require, and as London is the processing point for the entirety of the UK... Just looked on ACPO Criminal Records Office.found this...Certificates are prepared in accordance with ACPO guidelines (please note that these guidelines do not apply to Scottish and Military convictions).

I understand what you were saying re me applying via London but I'm not sure whether ACPO would be able to give me a certificate.I think I will try call someone on Monday.Maybe some Sottish VJ's could comment.

Ah, then I'd read it as meaning you need an ACPO (for all of the UK) and the SRA to cover the bit that ACPO can't get at (i.e. Scottish records).

You need the ACPO. If you have any Scottish convictions, you also need the SAR, else just the ACPO with "no trace" will be sufficient and what they want. SAR alone won't be enough.

Sorry,another question.I have to fill out forms ds-156 and ds-157 in duplicate.Do I send both copies to the Embassy now or do I send one copy and keep one copy?Thanks
