Went today for my medical at Medisys. My appointment was for 2:45pm (EST) but I arrived early at 2:20pm. It took approximately 2 hours from arrival to leaving as I left at 4:10pm. First you walk into the building, get on the first set of elevators and go up to the 11th Floor. Go to the Travel Clinic side (clinique santé-voyage). There are two sides, that's why I mention this.

I walked up and talked to a receptionist who I think was new. But she took my passport and made a few copies of the bio page, then took my photos (they staple them to their sheets), copied my interview letter and also took my vaccination information. I filled out a few forms which I'm sending to Saylin for posting. Basically asking my medical history and if I agree to the Xray and any vaccinations I made need.

First I went to the Dr was quite nice, spoke english well but don't talk to fast to him. He double checked my questionnaire then pulled around a curtain and told me to change into a gown. I didn't have to remove underwear (neither bra or panties.) I sat on a exam table. He checked my ears and neck. Then he noticed the marks and scars I have on my arms and quickly asked me about them, sounding quite concerned. I laughed and said I got them at work opening boxes and moving things around. He asked where I worked (Canadian Tire) and said it sounds like dangerous work. Then I stood up and I did the whole breathe in stuff. I laid down and he checked my heart beat and felt my abdomen, making note of my c-section scar. Then it was, k thanks, you're good, get dressed. Did that and was sent out for Xrays.

I had my Xrays, removing clothes from the top (including my necklace) and sat back down again.

Then the nurse came to get me, took 1 vial of blood, checked my eyesight with and without glasses on, height and weight.

Finally I paid $275+tax so $278ish... All in cash.

Then poof I left, came back and wrote this.

Sounds very similar to how my medical went there 2 years ago!

Except, they've increased the fee, goodness! It was a base of $215 when I went (extra charges for vaccines or the flu shot, like I had to get, grr).

The longest part of the NEXUS interview for me was watching the film.

They didn’t make my daughter watch the film at her appointment because she’d been at my appointment.

I still get a little nervous for anything to do with the border. Similar to right before getting a needle. unsure.png

Well then I should be fine. LOL I don't care about needles. I get more nervous when a dr takes my blood pressure than a needle. HAHA! If they start throwing spiders at me, I'll run but until then...

What's the benefit to getting a Nexus appointment? Does it somehow make the process go smoother?

6 Mar 2013 -- I130 transferred to Orlando local field office (which started the whole nightmare)

Mar 2013 to October 2013 no one would tell us where our case was or what was happening. I suspected the whole time it was just sitting in a corner somewhere in the Orlando field office. I was pretty much right.

October 2013 - get congressman involved. Congressman asks USCIS repeatedly about our case but they won't even tell them anything.

31 Jan 2014- finally get NOA2!!!! (we think the nightmare is over!)

NVC

Our case was not sent from the Orlando field office as it should have been. The nightmare continues. We kept calling NVC and asking if they received our case, and they always said "NO" and that we had to wait 90 business days for it to be received. We called USCIS during this time and they kept telling us it had been sent. After the 90 days of agonizing frustration, NVC then started telling us we had to wait 120 business days. I got our congressman involved again, and they told the congressman it was sitting at the Orlando office this whole time (just as I thought it was!).

22 Apr 2014 -- NVC received
16 May 2014 -- NVC case number assigned
24 May 2014 -- AoS and IV bills paid

28 May 2014 -- Sent AoS and IV Packages

6 June 2014 -- documents scanned

18 July 2014 -- false checklist from NVC

21 July 2014 -- Case complete

28 July 2014 -- receive case complete email from NV

30 July 2014 -- interview booked! September 11 here I come!

The NEXUS card helps you get across through customs quicker. A lot of the airports in Canada have special NEXUS lines for both security and customs (both ways) so it’s much easier for travel between the countries. Some of the land border crossings also have special NEXUS lanes if everyone in the vehicle has a card.

Thanks for the quick reply, Hikergirl! I thought that somehow it could speed up the I-130 process.. but it was wishful thinking I suppose :)

No it's because I have family in Canada I still want to visit including my daughter who has chosen to live with her father. Such is life. Whatever gets both of us through customs faster, IMHO, is worth the measly 50 bucks. :D

One small edit: I went back today to get my results and took note of how to make sure people go to the right spot.

Like I said there are two sides; one says Bureau 1110 and the other says Bureau 1100. - medecine du travail and a few others... Go to Bureau 1100
