Here's the kicker:

My fiancée is an Irish citizen. He is living on the island of Jersey with his parents. For those of you who don't know (including those who work in the NVC)- Jersey is an independent BRITISH territory that is situated off the coast of France within the Channel Islands. Though it is nearer to France than it is the UK, it is in no way, shape, or form affiliated with France.

On April 16th, 2013 we received our NOA2 after a grueling 9 month wait. We felt as though we were finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I called the NVC today to see if they had received our case yet. The woman that I spoke to on the phone was actually quite lovely and informed me that they had received our application and proceeded to give me our new case number. This is when things started to get hairy. Our new case number started with PRS (as opposed to IRL- the Irish embassy code that our visa should be sent to seeing as my fiancée is an IRISH citizen and should be interviewed in IRELAND). She then happily told me that our case- if not already- will soon be sent to the Paris Embassy for further processing:

Me: “PARIS?!”

Her: “That’s correct, is this not his address:” (as she reads off his parents address in Jersey- which happens to be on a French-named street)

Me: “That’s correct, but that address is in JERSEY not FRANCE”

…put on hold…

Without further gilding the lily, I was informed that the NVC had absolutely NO idea whatsoever that the island of Jersey was in fact NOT a French territory (please note- this is why google exists). Not to mention that living in Jersey has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that he is an Irish citizen with an Irish passport. They could not tell me whether or not the case has been sent out yet. Our lawyer- whom I would NOT recommend- is equally confused by this error.

Wits’ end!

Is he from NI? If so I believe the interview is held in London.

Check the website of US Embassy and Consulate in the country you want to be interviewed and see if there is a form requesting a case transfer.

In my case the embassy Tokyo has written to the embassy in London asking for the case to be forwarded to Japan- I had to fax the case transfer request form to Tokyo.

if the casefile is still at NVC, is possible to get it rehomed to Ireland, but ya gotta move fast, use a telephone, get a supervisor,

explain all to the supervisor, asking specifically:

Please rehome the casefile from Paris to Dublin . Please have the casefile yanked out of it's current processing queue, and re-assigned to Dublin.

You may or may not be given additional instructions.

Good On Ya for catching this with a phone call - it may be that you're successful in getting it rehomed whilst it's at NVC.

If that's not possible or yer not successful, you're in for a longer wait as the casefile winds it's way to Paris, waits there till it gets it's place in queue, then a human sees the transfer request, then a human acts on the transfer request, then the case goes out to Dublin, then there's more queues in Dublin till the K-1 visa portion is ready for more intake.

I really hope you are successful on the telephone tomorrow.

Go Get Em, and Good Luck !

Another child left behind, lets hope its not on its way to Paris, Texas.

Technically Jersey is a Crown Dependency.

Just wondered how you showed the address, I would put UK on the last line, even though it is technically incorrect.

Thank you everyone for your support and advice. I am happy to report that the NVC has redeemed itself slightly. I called them again today and was informed that our visa has been intercepted before it made its journey to Paris. It is now being forwarded to the London embassy. I am told this is still an acceptable embassy even though my fiancée is an Irish citizen (not NI). I spoke with the same woman at NVC as I had yesterday. Her pleasant demeanor was a major plus whilst dealing with this minor hiccup. A good attitude goes a long way!

One step closer to being in the arms of the love of my life. He is unfathomably missed!

Hope is restored.
