I-864 - Use of beneficiary's assets

I got approved for a K-1 visa and I will move to the U.S. in 3 weeks, I'm planning to get married to my fiancée within 2 weeks after my arrival.

Now, I realize that for my AOS my fiancée has to sign an I-864 affidavit of support on my behalf. As she is currently in school to get a master's degree, she has hardly any income, so we are intending to use my assets to meet the guidelines. I have about 130K$ in cash, stock and bonds, which I believe should be enough.

Now my questions are:

- Do I just list my own assets in Part 7 question 28 if the I-864 form?

- Can I keep them in my name, or do I need to place them in a joint account with my future wife?

- Do I have to transfer everything to banks in the U.S., or can I keep some of my stocks & bonds in my foreign accounts?

Thanks!

Your assets can be in your name. They can be in any bank, as long as you can submit proof of ownership. And yes, youd be line 28 assets of the immigrant. Make sure whatever you submit is solid proof of ownership- current bank statements with phone numbers/bank contact names if you have any. (they do have the right to verify it) Youre going to submit copies but know they can RFE you for the originals of anything or require you to bring them in to the interview in person.

When the assets of the beneficiary are used for affidavit of support, does he or she have to sign the I-864A?

My husband is my sponsor but we will be using my assets for sponsorship. Does it matter that we filed taxes as "married filing separately"?
