Poverty guidelines 2013

Hey VJs,

I was curious to see if anyone could help me and tell me where to find the poverty guidelines for 2013?

And also, how to calculate the household. Will my fiancé have to support 2 persons (one is me, one is himself) or will it just count for 1 person (not included himself)?

They still ahve the 2012 rates up as far as I can see.It is 2 . They count each person. http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-864p.pdf

I read somewhere else, that its 100% poverty line for fiancé visa, and 125% for marriage visa?

In case one gets a co-sponsor, will the co-sponsor be responsible for himself + the petitioner and the beneficiary? Or only himself and the beneficiary?

100% is correct for the Form 134, although knowing you will need 125% when adjusting status, many CO's will want to see 125%. The co-sponsor, if accepted, will have to show sufficient income based on his current family size, plus any other dependents, including other immigrants he is sponsoring, plus the beneficiary.

The co-sponsor should be a close relative. Distant relatives, or friends, will probably not be accepted as a co-sponsor.

I think people aim for 125% or above with the K1 to prevent any problems.

The co-sponsor will not include the petitioner, unless they already claim that person on their taxes as being dependent.

Nope. It is gross (total) income, less a few adjustments. If you are looking at your w-2, it would be box 1. If you are looking at your paycheck, it would be taxable wages. If you receive reoccurring payments, interest, alimony, or normal dividends, those could be included too. If you pay alimony, you would have to deduct that.

Hi, I was a student last year, getting my degree hammered out, so i was below the poverty line. BUT the year before I was at 22k. I am delaying filing my taxes this year but I dont think i can defer it long enough and i will end up filing last years taxes where i am below the poverty line due to school.. This year I am finishing school and have made it so i will just be above the poverty line.... is there anyway to get around the poverty line requirements so i dont have to wait to bring my fiance till the following year. 8( I want to do the paper work and have her here at the end of this year... IS THIS A CRAZY IDEA!??! I spent a month and a half there around november,last year and have known here for a year...
