i am holding green card(not conditional green card) for over 10 years. I would like to file I-130 for my wife in china.

does anyone know how long it takes for my wife and kid to come to US?

i checked www.uscis.gov. it said it would take 6 months to 24 months... depends on which center (TX, CA, Nebraska etc...)

i have talked to some people, they told me it could take 4~5 years...

if anyone has done this before, please tell me how long it really takes.

while we are waiting for I-130 to be approved, is there any way she can come visit me? can she apply B-2 visa? i am afraid US embassy won't approve B-2 visa because her husband is an US resident...

I would plan for at least 3-4 years, and yes if she can proove strong ties to China she is eligeble for a tourist visa (however I would think the fact she has an immigration process started they would be more inclined to decline it).

I would submit the I-130 ASAP, it really doesn't matter how long it takes, if your plan is to have them move here the sooner you start the better.

If you are a "good US resident/citizen", meaning no significant crimes in the last 5 years, done your taxes, etc. You should consider naturalizing (that is if you wish to be a citizen of this great country), this would greatly cut down the time the petition for your family would take, from 3-4 years to just around 8-11 months. Keep in mind you do not need to naturalize before sending the petitions, you can send them as a resident and then upgrade them once you become a USC, that is what I did and it really paid off saving me at least 3 months.

Best of wishes for your journey.

so why haven't you become a US Citizen? it would take less time, only 8 months to a year if you were a USC. 5 years used to be the time, now it's less.

I agree with that, had same discussion with my wife, GC vs Citizenship.

File an I-130 for your wife. This process takes 2-3 years. If your kid is unmarried and under age 21, then your kid can immigrate with his mother.

Meanwhile, go get your US citizenship. Once you get US citizenship, it is much easier and faster to bring your family to the US.

It's highly unlikely that your family in China will be granted visitor visas when they have immigrant intent.

A green card is to live in the US. A continues pattern of short visits every 5 or so months will not work for years. At some entry your pattern will call attention to the fact you aren't living in the US and they will revoke your green card.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Maybe he has been playing fast and loose with his GC for 10 years so is not eligible to naturalise?

ya, he has a lot of questions these last 6 months.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.
