My husband resides in the US on an H1-B; he is a professor from Germany. We married in the US and are now applying for an AOS to secure his permanent residency. I am in the process of completing the I-130, which we will file concurrently with the I-485.

Two questions regarding the I-130:

1) question 10, alien registration number - he had an A number for his previous H1-B (he has since gotten a job at another US university), but there are no A numbers listed on the paperwork associated with his current visa. Can I leave alien registration number blank?

2) question 22, your relative...will apply...at the USCIS office in: Do I simply list the nearest field office?

One question regarding I-485:

1) Part 3, Section A non-immigrant visa number Is the visa number the one listed in red on his visa? There are so many numbers listed, I want to be sure.

Thanks in advance for your help. I am certain I am going to have additional questions as this process moves forward.

Hi....

Two questions regarding the I-130:

1) question 10, alien registration number - he had an A number for his previous H1-B (he has since gotten a job at another US university), but there are no A numbers listed on the paperwork associated with his current visa. Can I leave alien registration number blank?

Yes you can they will assign a number after the process starts.

2) question 22, your relative...will apply...at the USCIS office in: Do I simply list the nearest field office?

If you are filling forms I-130 and I-485 concurrently you should submit your package to USCIS Chicago Lockbox (Page 5 on the instructions: http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-130instr.pdf )

So you should list Chicago, IL

One question regarding I-485:

1) Part 3, Section A non-immigrant visa number Is the visa number the one listed in red on his visa? There are so many numbers listed, I want to be sure.

Yes. Visa number is the eight numbers in RED at the bottom of his visa

Hope it helps!!

Actually on the first question about Alien Registration Number don't leave it blank you should not leave any fields blank always use None or N/A

THANKS! VERY HELPFUL.

Another question, on the 485 form, I'm a bit confused as to what we should check under "I am applying for an adjustment to permanent resident status because:"

None of the options seems applicable. He did recently get his H1B, but that's not an immigrant visa and he was already here on on H1B approval notice when we married. Should I check "h) other basis of eligibility" and list the reason as "married to an American citizen." ???
