It's over! I had my oath today :D. Updated the list below.

Congrats, dagabe!!!

Hey Mozplay... I think I'm in a similar boat. Recommended for approval at my interview on February 11th, no news since... No online updates nor oath letter. I'm adding my maiden name as a middle name so maybe the name change is slowing it down. I wouldn't have bothered making the minor name change if I'd known... Hopefully they'll get moving soon. The IO at my interview said oath in about 2 months, I thought she was giving me an estimate of the longest it would take, I guess not!

Yeah.. this kinda sucks since we passed and all. I think I'll give them a call.. but I'm dreading doing that. Keep putting it off.

I don't know, I can always tell when I am getting an important letter from USCIS. I just get that feeling before getting home and checking the mail.

I got my interview letter today, exactly one week after I received the email from USCIS notifying me that an interview has been scheduled. My interview is scheduled for March 05, at the USCIS field office in Holtsville, NY. I was a bit surprised as I didn't even know there was a field office out there in Suffolk County. My previous interview during the AOS process was at the field office in Garden City, in Nassau County. Hence I was either expecting that or the office in Manhattan. Apparently, the Holtsville location is a new field office opened in 2010. It is set up to serve people from Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Here is a link if you are interested in reading more about it:

Hi all,

I had my interview today and it was a walk through. The lady told me to raise my hands and i took the oat. she then asked me to write down " The white house is in Washington DC". She then asked me a 6 questions

What do we show loyalty to when we say the Pledge of Allegiance?

Who did america go to war with in WW1?

What is an amendment?

What is the capital of your state?

Who vetos bills?

what is the supreme law of the land?

After these questions, she confirmed my names were correct and then told me i was recommended for approval. I asked her if i could get sworn in right away but she said no and told me to come back for my swearing in on the 27th. She also told me to wait in order to recieve my letter despite the fact that a copy would be mailed to me. I collected the letter after 30mins of waiting and left.

The lady had a cold and I captalized on that asking her how she was doing and hope she feels better. She did not ask me about my numerous trips back to canada neither did she ask me to provide any evidence. I bless the name of God..

Good luck to you all.

It's over! I had my oath today :D. Updated the list below.

Hello NewAmerican,

How did your interview go? post some details if you can. Hope it went smoothly.

I'm still waiting for my interview letter, I've been placed in line for interview scheduling aver 6 weeks ago, I'm starting to worry a little, wondering why it's taking so long? :/

OMG Nyla, you know you ran across my mind recently and I said, I better go on VJ and give an update on my case as I know you and many others are probably waiting to hear. Low and behold, I logged in and I saw your post. Sorry for the delay with my posting. I've been caught up with some other things in my life.

I am pleased to announce that my interview on March 5th was as smooth as butter. It's the easiest interaction I've had with USCIS to date. My interview was scheduled for 11:00 a.m. but I took a cab from my house and got there a lot earlier than I had expected. When I went inside there was a number of people already waiting. I went up to the clerk at the reception desk and he took my appointment letter and then he instructed me to have a seat in the waiting area. I took out my cellphone and started doing random things on it because I was expecting to wait a while.

To my surprise, within about 10 minutes I heard a lady called my name. It was the immigration officer calling me for the interview. From the moment she said good morning to me I know it was going to be a pleasant experience. Something about her just made me feel comfortable. The best way I would describe her is friendly but professional. She made me take the oath to tell truth then proceeded with the interview. I had requested to change my name on the N-400 application so she asked me if I still wanted to go ahead with that and I said yes. I told her why I wanted to change my name and she was very understanding and supportive. She made me sign the papers to confirm it. Then she went right into the interview questions. She asked me about 4 or 5 questions on US history and Civics. I answered them quickly off the top of my head (I was well prepared) and she seemed impressed with that. She then asked the mandatory questions about my background such as: have I ever been arrested, used drugs and stuff like that. She then said congrats, you've been recommended for approval then she had me sign some remaining paperwork. She said she was satisfied with the interview and that she require no further paperwork from me as I had already sent enough evidence with my original application. Then she said my Oath letter should be arriving in the mail in the next 4-8 weeks.

That was it. The interview itself was less than 15 minutes. In fact when I stepped out of the office, some of the people who were sitting in the waiting area looked at me with surprise as if they couldn't believe I just came and got through already. The interview was scheduled for 11:00 a.m. and I was out of the office by 10:45 a.m. on the dot.

Anyways hang in there Nyla. Your interview date is around the corner. They seem to process things faster some months than others. Once they say you are placed in line you are fine. It's just a matter of waiting for the interview date notice. In the mean time just keep yourself distracted with other things in your life to pass the time. That's what I did... that explains why you haven't seen me around here in the last couple weeks. In fact I was surprised how quick my interview date came up on me. It seemed so far away when I first got the notice. :)

Congrats Joshua. It seems like you and I had similar experiences. Indeed, bless the name of God.

The timeline you have re-posted needs some editing though. You have to remove the "quote" text when re-posting to format it correctly. I will fix it below.

Another update... I just got the following email from USCIS:

On March 7, 2013, we placed your application in the oath scheduling que. We will send a notice when the ceremony is scheduled. If you move prior to the scheduled ceremony, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

Naturalization Applicants: you will receive your certificate at your oath ceremony. You can expect to be scheduled for an oath ceremony within 45 days of receiving your recommended approval. Many offices schedule approved applicants for the oath ceremony on the same day as the day of the interview. Please check the local office profile page on our website to determine if the office where you will be interviewed schedules same day oath ceremonies.

Re-posting correctly formatted timeline for everyone's benefit:

I'm still waiting for my interview letter, I've been placed in line for interview scheduling aver 6 weeks ago, I'm starting to worry a little, wondering why it's taking so long? :/

Not to worry, I'm still waiting for news also, been three weeks since my last infopass appointment. And I have not even been placed In Line for Interview yet. My Biometric was done on the 3rd of Dec.

Incredibly frustrating experience.

Congrats, fellow new-orleanian! I've noticed that they sometimes give the oath letter the same day for an oath taking place at the closest thursday (in N.O, they seem to have an oath every thursday based on most people).

Why did it last so long though? did she ask for tax transcripts or I-751-relevant documents?

Thanks Okalian,

The IO said that they are pretty much busy and for an Oath Ceremony for me would be around the first of April, I did not know they would sometimes give the oath letter the same day in N.O. Office, I'd have asked, but it's OK I'd wait. I've been waiting for 7 years, let's wait for little bit more lool

My Interview started at 11:05 and ended 11:45, she did not ask for tax transcripts or I-751, I had to sign couple of papers, the I.O fixed my pictures, and was writing and fixing up my N-400 app. that's about it.

Wish you best of the luck Okalian, الحمد لله رب العالمين

Way to go NewAmerican and Joshua!! Congrats!!

Joshua, your timelines pretty much similar to mine, we also got the exact same questions! looks like that USCIS generate same set of questions nationwide every new month, I guess

That's great news, congratulations! Your journey is almost over, that's so exciting! When I applied for a green card, based on marriage, we were interviewed by a very nice female IO in Manhattan, hoping to get similar person this time :)

wow! that's a long time.... and you sent your application almost 1 month before me! And I thought New York was the slowest. Hopefully we'll be hearing from USCIS very soon :)

Well, I completely forgot to update here. My interview went well on 2/28. I was scheduled at 10, but was there at 930 expecting to see a sea of people. But, it was just me in the waiting room. My interview started early at 9:45 am.

The USCIS officer was friendly and somewhat of a cheeky #######. He asked about my divorce and wanted details on why etc. He also asked about my current marriage. He also asked about speeding tickets and I told him I had none in the last 7 years. Also, he asked about my citation in college and said it was nothing to worry about but to never do anything like that again. I also gave him an update about my new job since applying and he took it down.

The reading and writing test was way easy and so were the civics questions. I don't remember them. It was such a blur. I just remember answering them all correctly. He then gave me my approval letter. I was out by 10:10 am or so. We did spend the last 5 minutes just chatting etc, very pleasant experience.

I just got an email and text today that I have been scheduled for the oath ceremony. The journey is just about complete! I will update the dates when I get the letter.
