Just wondering how many USCs choose to add their spouses to their insurance plan.

Given that my husband is canadian, I haven't worried about this for the past 2 years.

Now that we're filing, its looking like it's cheaper to just get him his own insurance plan direct from BCBS or similar. Our accountant at work told me that it would be 650/mo for both of us... BUT I ONLY PAY 110 FOR MYSELF!!

Wow, really? That's a serious increase! Is that because they only cover the employee and then pass on the cost of spouse/dependent coverage directly to you?

Once we're married, the cost for me and then-husband to my company insurance (medical/dental/vision) will only be about $260/month.

My husband add me recently to his health insurance (employee benefit) . He doesn't pay for HIS health insurance, but he pays almost 370 dls for mine. Include surgery, medicals app, emergency, visual, dental and maternity. I think its totally worth it. 2 month after my arrival I got sick with a massive throat infection, I went to the hospital and spent a day getting the treatment. Thanked God we have my health insurance. The bill was 2,900dls but we pay like 350.

i looked at this a lot.

prior to I-130 submittal, it could be viewed as additional bonafide marriage evidence

but what's the point when it costs more money?

It's actually cheaper for me to pay for her medical insurance in China via money pass through, than for her to be on my policy here (and unable to use anything on my insurance in China)

in the end, it's perfectly fine to add the spouse once the spouse is here, as all insurance companies view it as a 'life-changing event' and as such, she's eligible to be added once she's inside the USA.

I think you're misunderstanding. I'm not looking for proof of anything.

I'm looking to get my husband insurance in the US once he gets there.

I THOUGHT it was 250 so I think this is CRAZY!

I know when my mom wanted to do family, hers was 1.2k!!!

It's because we are a small business. :bonk:

My husband will add me to his once I move down here. I did notice that while dental and vision seem to do, main+1, most medical (at least that were available to him) had to be a family plan. I personally think it's a tad ridiculous to charge 2 people what you would charge a family of 4. But I'm from Canada, Alberta more specifically, and I haven't payed a cent for health care in years except vision and dental. Lol! I'm just happy he works for the govt and gets access to reduced rate health care plans. :). Have you guys looked I to just getting him his own plan and the cost of that? It might be less prohibitive.

I also apologize for any bad spelling and grammar. I've had very little sleep ans I'm on my phone. :). But I get I see, hug, hold and kiss my husband today so it is a great day!

My husband added me to his insurance plan shortly after getting married. I had a pre-existing condition and it would have been hard for me to get an individual plan. I was on his insurance for a long time though because I got a job as soon as I got my green card. The company that I was working for offers free health insurance to employees and he moved to that company as well for its benefits. So, we were each on our own individual plan because we were getting them for free from our employer. Just curious, if your husband can get an individual plan cheaper than the one you get at work, then what's stopping you from doing so?

I don't have any problems with the plan I have from work. It costs $100/mo

Insurance for women with Maternity can cost hundreds.

Maternity is nothing I need to be worried about because I already had my daughter and I'm not having any more kids. I don't need birth control covered either since I went a permanent route for that. I could see how a great number of people would need the maternity benefits though.

I wish it was that bad for me. I have a PPO that I pay for at work, $720 a month! I added me wife at an additional cost of $910 a month!! ####### that's almost 20K a year! Anyway, we're hoping to use the maternity care real soon. I added her so I could send in a copy of her card with our I-485. Will be shopping insurance in the not too distant future.

Unless you have some crazy preexisting conditions, I don't know why you would take that.

You could go to bcbs direct and get cheaper policies.

I have an HMO so that is to add him to my HMO policy.

It was much more for PPO I believe she said around the same at about 900.

I love my HMO policy. I pay for pretty much nothing except a $20 copay to see my doctor.

Agreed, I've just always had the PPO although I almost never go the doctor. No preexisting conditions, just health care in US, particularly Calif is very high. We'll keep it for a few months to see if maternity is needed if not, will definitely swithch to a HMO. I guess I liked the idea of not having to get a referral because usually only time I see a doctor is when I break something, LOL!!
