Transportation to Juarez Consulate (Mexico)

Hi all, I am planning to meet my fiance in Juarez during her medical/consulate interview next week. I will fly to El Paso, Texas and am wondering if anyone has any advice or reccomendations on transport from El Paso airport to the Juarez Consulate and vice versa? Will any old taxi service do? Or is there a safer/smarter option? Also wondering how long the border crossing itself will take?

Well, it turns out getting a taxi directly from the airport to a hotel in juarez is straight forward. Cost about $65. Going back the other was should be interesting.

Sorry that no one else answered; I crossed on foot a couple of times to Juarez, but that wasn't enough to help you.

If my experiences in other border towns is typical, you'll surely be able to take a taxi to one of the POE bridges, maybe almost up to the U.S. port building itself. Once you're through there, you'll find (or can call) a taxi on the U.S. side.

Keep us posted, si man.

Thanks Tbone! Hotel staff at La Quinta, Juarez were very helpful. I got a cab that took me straight from the hotel in Juarez to the hotel in El Paso. I got a cursory glance from the US border staff and a quick search of my pack, but that was all. Did not even have to exit the vehicle. All in all, crossing the border was quicker than going through airport security. Cab fare was about $70.

After this trip, I really feel more relaxed with Juarez. It is portrayed pretty terribly in the media and is I am sure, understandably dangerous, but I saw none of that. As with most visa matters, a lot of worry over nothing :P

Great news, si man. I too saw nothing amiss in Juarez (grimy place though it is), nor in Nuevo Laredo (which has been very unfairly trashed by our irresponsible media), nor in any of the smaller border cities that I've visited. All the businesspeople are desperate for gringo visitors, and are quite helpful and hospitable. It's an outright crime, what our media have done to kill their livelihoods through spreading fear here.

Anyway, now you know -- and others know, courtesy of your report. I hope that you'll monitor this subforum and enlighten others who had the same questions as you, si man.

I'm so glad you posted your experience, I was watching your topic and hoping! I'm debating flying in to El Paso for my husband's interview and had the same questions you did about the trip. One cab in one cab out sounds much better than what I have researched. The only return trips I have found discussed were of those entering with new visas and their border crossing experience was much different than you have described as a returning USC. I was worrying about being a woman traveling alone through a sketchy part of the world and you have put my mind at ease! Thanks!

Glad my experience has helped you a little! We stayed at La Quinta hotel and apparently they use the same guy all of the time for going over the border, so if you are lucky enough to take that route, I would hope you would have a similar experience :)
