Almost 4 Weeks, Still Not in SAVE System

Hi everyone,

It has been almost 4 weeks since my fiance arrived in the US. He went last week to try to get a SSN. The lady told him that he was not in the SAVE system yet. Then she told him (I was not present thus I can't vouch for this) that it does not show evidence that he entered the country legally. He has an I-94 and his passport was stamped, so I'm hoping this is just her way of reiterating that he wasn't in the system.

Two questions: Should I make an infopass appointment to make sure he was recorded correctly at LAX? I just don't want to run out of time to file for the SSN.

Which brings me to my next question.. If I do need to do the manual entry (if they will do that for me) if this takes longer than the window I have for filing (less than 2 weeks before the I-94 expires) will he no longer be eligible? I'm not sure if the wait for that verification process with USCIS all has to be done before the I-94 expires.

Please help!

Can anyone answer my question? :( At least explain to me how the timeline works for manual verification? Does that have to get completed before the 2 week period when the I-94 expires? It seems like that will take a while.

I know of a person on this forum who finally after 10 weeks got a response and their SS# application got denied as the I-94 had expired before the application was processed.

basically you can wait for few more days and try to apply for it again.

if less than week of time remaining, I don't think they will issue at that point anymore, as you wouldn't be able to get the card before expiration of your I-94

and in theory the manual verification is in any case slower and weeks after you show up in the system.

your entry information should end up in the system before your papers get transferred to USCIS or whatever department of DHS receives them and before anyone actually reads them.

SAVE Fixing is done at a CBP Office, just walk in to yer local secondary / deferred inspection office - get it done in real time - no queues, no lines, no waiting.

Recheck with SSA office also - ask for 'cross lookup' - once via A#, once via visa name.

Good Luck !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Hi AlyssaM,

We recently went through this very same thing. It took us around 2 months to finally get his SSN. We began trying 2 weeks after US entry. This 2 month time period included numerous visits to SSA, an Infopass appointment (complete waste of time - do not bother doing this) and a trip to Customs and Border Patrol Deferred Inspection to ensure his data was recorded correctly at entry (it was).

To answer your questions:

1. Do not make an Infopass apointment for this issue. They will not be able to tell you anything useful. If you really want to check that he was recorded correctly, find out where your nearest CBP Deferred Inspection office is (usually at an international airport) and go there and have them manually check into it.

2. I can't tell you 100%, but I believe you may have to wait until you get your EAD before you get your SSN now. 2 weeks is not enough time for a manual verification (takes about a month). It can't hurt to try - see what they say.

Best of luck! I know just how frustrating this can be.

that's right, tempa.

2 weeks past POE date, not in SAVE database yet. Right after? is in SAVE database.

14 days prior to I-94 expiration, cannot apply, SSA staff turn you away.

DO NOT GO TO INFOPASS APPOINTMENT - is useless to find and fix.

CBP office can find and fix, in real time, same day - no appointment needed, no queues, no lines, no waiting - but

must to go in person.

Thank you everyone!

Ok, forget the infopass....that saved me a lot of time I think, thanks for that advice!

He came here on August 15, so exactly 4 weeks ago. Which means yes, he only has 2 months left in the time window before the I-94 expires.

I will have him go again on Friday just to see.

So should I not bother doing manual verification with two months left?

manual verification, initiated at SSA office, requires 3 to 8 weeks . I suggest you not take that option, instead focusing on CBP office visit.

Alright, thanks. So you don't need an appointment for that? Is there any way to find their hours? I will do a little research..
