What's the purpose for NBI?

Good day VJ!

We filed for a K1 Visa and my interview will take place this week. I'm quite confused with the NBI clearance... What should be the purpose for the NBI; is it for "TRAVEL ABROAD PURPOSES" or "IMMIGRATION PURPOSES"? Mine has the "IMMIGRATION PURPOSES" but I saw a couple of NBI samples here in VJ that has the "TRAVEL ABROAD PURPOSES." So which is correct? Or are both reasons correct?

I hope someone can enlighten me.

Thank you.

I think either way can be used..NBI clearances is just to prove the US immigration that an applicant has no pending criminal records...I used for travel purposes and my Visa got approved.

An officer asked me where I will use the clearance and told him I was applying for US Visa, so he put "IMMIGRATION PURPOSES." That's why I got nervous when I saw a different one. I just want to make sure, that's all.

Thank you again for your replies.

Ours said 'For Travel to the US'. So yes, it seems they can put different things on there. As long as it says either travel abroad, immigration, travel to the US, any of those should be fine. Seems like they can put in there anything they want. There was also a discussion about what the 'proper' thing you want to see on there, and we seem to have shown it can say either 'no record on file', or 'no derogatory record' or something, which all seem valid.

4. NBI CLEARANCE: Applicants aged 16 years and older must have a valid Record Clearance for Travel Abroad Purposes from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). Clearances should be in the applicant’s current name, birth certificate name, maiden name, married name, and any aliases or nicknames ever used, including different spellings of all names ever used. An official letter of explanation from the NBI is required for any notation of “No criminal record”, or "No pending case”. For immigration purposes, an NBI clearance is considered valid only for one year from the date it is issued. You may contact NBI at (632) 523-82-31 to 38. The NBI website is http://www.nbi.gov.ph.
