Hello VJers,

I need a little help regarding the Japanese clearance, I already had one which was sent out to NVC since it requires us to send all the clearances from countries we live. Now, my question is do I have to get a new for US embassy manila interview? or NVC will forward that to US embassy Manila? I am a bit worried because I only have one Japan Police clearance which is already in NVC. It took 2 months to get the clearance and I don't want that it will cause any delays:( Do I need another one? Please help:(

No, you don't need to go get another one. My case is similar as yours. I was in Japan for 4 years and I did the sane thing as you. Don't worry. NVC will forward everything you sent them to the consulate that you are going for an interview. Good luck!

But please keep in mind that your police clearance certificate from Japan will expire within 6 months after the issued date.

Yes, normally you would bring that one with you to the interview, and not include it in the initial petition. Since it can easily take more than 6 months for it to move through USCIS and NVC and everything, you might consider getting another one closer to when you think your visa will be approved, just to be safe. It would suck to get to the interview, have them ask for a current one, and then have to wait again while you go and get it.

However, one would like to 'THINK' that the embassy, seeing an older police report but also seeing by your passport that you haven't re-entered Japan, so couldn't really have committed any new crimes, would accept the initial one you sent just fine.

But I personally wouldn't take the chance.

You are confusing the CR/IR1 process with the K-1. The OP is not saying they submitted their police clearance with the initial petition and is not expected to bring already submitted police certs to the interview. They submitted the required docs (including police cert and I-864) at the correct time to NVC after the approval of their petition from their service center.

OP has followed the process correctly and their police cert will be forwarded with the rest of their case to the embassy as per usual with a CR/IR1. No need to get a new one.
