 OK so i am super mad right now and fed up with Jamaica's system! they are SOOO SLOPPY!!!my husband got a call yesterday from the Jamaican embassy saying that the person we used for joint sponsor isnt sufficient which is complete BULL! because the sponsor for my husband needs to make 18,912 dollars according to the poverty guidelines and our sponsor makes $26,000 so wat r they talkin about? i clled NVC and explained to them and even hey dont understand what the Jamaican embassy is saying bcuz im sure NVC is used as the clearing house 4 all paperwork and if there was sumthing wrong with the affidavit they would not send it to Jamaica! it was a Jamaican person tht called my husband so i am wondering if possibly th person made a mistake bcuz not all of them r familiar with how to go about reading into the financial details of a case. NVC told me they should b using the current income of the sponsor (not the tax return) to determine if the sponsor is eligible. my sponsor only worked half the year in 2011 so she made half of the 26,000 but RIGHT NOW according to the pay stubs and other evidence we sent in she makes 26,000 which nvc says is wat the embassy should be using because that is her current income! and thats wat they used to determine that our sponsdor was eligible. I am just mad bcuz its 2weeks b4 my husbands interview and such a error is being made by the Jamaican embassy! has anyone gone through this problem? please help.....i will be contacting the embassy early monday morning!

NVC has also informed me that f i have any problems with the embassy after trying to contact them i should call back to speak with a head manager bcuz they even went over the financial papers with me on the phone and said there is no way the Jamaican embassy would get my case from them if the financial evidence was not up to par with the current requirements.

Unfortunately it is the CO at the consulate who makes the call on the affidavit of support. The NVC checks for completeness, but final approval is not theirs to give. Consider yourself lucky that they gave you the heads up now, and aren't dropping this on you at the interview. You still have time to get this worked out before the interview. And you're dealing with the US Embassy in Jamaica, not the Jamaican Embassy.

It is the CO's call, not NVC. Mistakes do get made and it may be worth following up at the embassy level.

Although its the CO calls just make sure you have up to the minute current paystubs to show on going. You said co-sponsor how many on the application do they claim? Just them and your husband or do they have dependants?

Also for just 2 the guideline at 125% is $19330.

But just make sure he has all the Affidavit of support. Mistakes do happen. It will be well.

I ponder if I should respond to this post or not, one because there is a lot of mis- guided or mistaken information.

1. Can we get the titled corrected to reflect the US Consular in Jamaica.

2. If the OP co-sponsor is only showing present income of $26,000 for the present year, than yes the consular is asking her correctly to present another co-spnonsor who can show a trend in prior and present years with acceptable income for the number of people being sponsored.

3. The US consular in Jamaica have always used the above trend guideline for co-sponsors for the CR1. The final decision is their call. Please be advise that NVC can not over-rule the consular decision.

4. OP, you need to take a deep breath and think about how you are going to over-come this and rustle up another co-sponsor. If your present co-sponsor can show that they made this same income in prior years, such a 10, 11, and 12, then present that evidence. If that is not the case then you will need a different co-sponsor.

You also posted in another thread link here that the sponsor you are using is also sponsoring her mother. That makes a minimum of a count of 3 for her household (provided she doesn't have children). Which is $23,862. Granted, $26,000 is more than that, but there seems to be some confusion here as to how many are actually in the household of the Co-Sponsor you are using. The current guideline for poverty level can be found here 2012 poverty guideline

As Julie y Pat mentioned, be thankful you have a chance to respond to this. Getting mad is not going to solve the situation at all. Be "solution" oriented not "problem" oriented.

Edit: Maybe others are mentioning the fact that the US Consular in Jamaica uses a guideline different than the one posted on USCIS website. I don't know...

ok for all the people jumping down my throat about this let me say that the sponsor for my husband has no children in her household, it is her alone so my husband would make the number of ppl in her household up to 2. now we sent in 2010 and 2011 tax returns plus pay stubs for those past years and this year (2012) we also sent in job letter, bank account statements and proof of assets so if my sponsor meets those requirements and is being paid WAAAYYYY ABOVE the poverty guideline are you going to tell me that i should not be upset that the US embassy in Jamaica is now telling me that we DO NOT meet the requirements? i find that hard to comprehend since we know for a fact that we have our financial stuff in order and up to standard! i dont really care who makes the final decision it seems that the embassy then needs to train its Jamaican officers how to read and comprehend financial records!

OB18, since you have not stated any $$$ for the pior year, no one can tell you if what you have submitted is acceptable, or if the US consular has made a mistake.

You are getting angry, (this is noted by thewritting tone of your post)at the wrong people, no one on VJ has denied you and your husband anything. What we are telling too do is help you, if you don't want the help then I think you should ask the mod to close this post.

I have been seeing petitions and information to come out of this US consular for the last five years and I can tell you, that what I have stated in my post is what they are looking for.

Relax my dear, something came to my mind when I read this second post you made..Are you positive that the delay is about this alone and not this along with some other issues? Just somethong to ponder on for a sec. Dont get frustrated or else you wont think straight. The people here to help in any way they can but with limited information one can only guess. At this point guessing is not what you need. Go over the steps discussed with you and "the Jamaican personel" in detail and see if anything beside this stand out. Or you may call the US embassy in Jamaica and find out further just for the sake of clarity.

Would that not add up to three? Herself, your husband, and you?

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

No one has "jumped" down your throat. However, you have failed to mention here in this post, that which you mentioned in your other post. You claimed your co-sponsor is also sponsoring her mother?

Ok so my oroginal sponsor was not approved by the embassy in Jamaica so i got a new person. my question is if she sponsors for my husband's papers will it cause a problem with the fact that her mom is also being filed for right now and she was suppose to be the sponsor for her as well? like if she sponsors for my husband can she still sponsor for her mom as well when the time comes around?

It just seems that 2 stories are being told. Hence the confusion. If indeed your co-sponsor has an application pending with her mother, maybe that is the problem??
