1 is true...except they are already buying good now.

2 .Would force wages down further....the US is already suffering from three decades of flat wages.

3. If there is only so much taxable wealth in the labor pool, passing that wealth to more workers with less wages doesn't boost tax income. Yes, the odd jobs that are under the radar would pick up local taxes maybe even state, probably not much federal.

1. Deporting them would take away all that business.

2. The problem of flat wages has to do with income distribution. There has been very significant growth in the economy, the problem is that it is all going to the very top!

3. Wealth is created when the economy expands! The economy expands when there is money in the hands of the middle class. Jobs are created when demand for goods and services increase, not when wealth of the 1% goes up!

I agree, though some will argue it will expand through investment / productivity. I reject that and support the notion that the modern US economy collectively grows on consumer spending especially by the middle class.

What difference does it make? I'm not there anymore.

there seems to be an issue coming to terms that moving (self-move or deported) back to where someone came from is a world of difference. on the surface ... one move is at will, the other is forced. the end result in either case is the same. a person is back where they came from.

of course if the person was deported and returned to the home country all the friends/ family (support group) will no longer speak to the returning person(s). reason being the perceived failure of being caught breaking the law and sent packing back home ....

Separating a child from its parents is horrible, regardless of the circumstances. So is making a child leave their country of birth to live in their parent's "home country". Imagine if that happened to you when you were a child.

live in the parents home country where the parents actually have a support group of friends and other family members ... yea that can be stressful.

A country that they haven't lived in for 17 years? Yeah, I'm sure the "support group of friends" (whatever that is) is really strong.

Why not? 17 years - that's about how long I've been gone from Germany. And yet, my family and friends are all still there. And they are still my family and friends whether I live there or not.

Were you deported? Leaving somewhere by choice is not the same as your whole family being removed from a country. What a bizzare comparison. Why do you keep comparing moving by choice to Sousuke's suggestion of removing the whole family? I've made it clear that's what I am replying to yet you keep on making irrelevant comments.

Nothing irrelevant about the comment at all. Try and follow the conversation and it'll be clear.

You complained about the scenario where a child leaves the country where it was born to live with the parents in their home country. That, according to you, is horrible. Someone then sarcastically "agreed" that living in the parents home country with a full support system that friends and and extended family provides is indeed horrible. You then come back to question whether such support system could still exists if the parents haven't lived in their home country for 17 years. I responded that it absolutely can and should exists even after such extended absences and quoted my very own experience here.

Of course you don't like my response and then quickly change the subject asking me whether I was deported? You know that I wasn't deported but it really makes no difference in the context of the conversation - which you also know. Or should know. The conversation happened to be around the existence or lack of a support network in one's home country many years after having left. Try to stay focused on the discussion and you might get more out of it.

That seems to be the claim and it is as ridiculous a claim as I have ever seen.

Official intake on petitions starts the end of August. I pray more adjudicators were hired and trained at the first of July, to handle the new caseload, otherwise all other cases will suffer.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Know what you mean. Left CT 23 years ago. Still have a support group there. Left VA 6 years ago and still have support there. Heck left both of those states pre-wife and kids and in both places my friends/ family there keep track of the happenings here in Houston. Any time I go back ... Talk about a support group ... They are good.

I read a newspaper article today or yesterday wherein the director of USCIS said that they had no plans to hire extra personnel, because "they're waiting to see what the workload will be" or similar. Egad. We're hoping to get Mrs. T-B.'s N-400 in so that it hits before the illegals flood the system.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Ergo nothing has changed in terms of workload, so far. That should appease the more anxious whose predictions were apocalyptic.

That's simply because they have not started accepting applications yet...not until the 15th....so of course the current workload has not been bombarded. The reality is that its all about money. I'm not sure who allocates money directly for USCIS, but if its anything like education (my current profession) - there will not be money to suffice the need. I currently have 40+ in my classes. Ideally you should not have more that 15-20, and the national avergage is 25 - its ridiculous. We don't even have enough desks, but without State financial support, we just have to deal. I fear the USCIS may be in a similar situation...as if anyone really is concerned about those of us who started the process legally. All we hear in the media is the sob stories of illegal immigrants...no is worried if people in the process legally might have to wait months longer.
