Good morning!

I'm currently half way through the K1 Visa application. We have been granted permission from Califfornia and awaiting more paper work to get to mt partner in Portland.

The question i have is i keep reading people saying packet 3 sent before received? What am i missing here? I am serving in Baghdad and working through the London Embassy so we are trying to time everything perfectley and if there is a way i can get paper work away before recieving it then it would be a god send. I am home at the start of Sept and need to apply for my police record which I'm told takes 10 days to arrive back to you? Then looking at booking my medical at the end of sept just before heading back to Baghdad for a final month.

Also when do you recieve the LDN number?

"Take a deep breath"

Thank you all!

okay first off, congrats on your NOA2 (at least I think that's what you've said you've gotten, approval at California?)

I might be wrong since military cases get processed slightly differently, however your case will be forwarded to the National Visa Center. Once received, it'll be assigned an LDN number. Depending on when you had your NOA2, you might be able to get that number now. Your forms will be sent to London which can take a week or two.

All packet three is, is a one page letter that says "Go to this website and fill out these forms and send them back" if you go to the UK subforum, there's a huge topic on what to do now in there, but essentially once you know the case is in London, you can send your forms off. It's what I did.

You will have to have your police certificate back before you can send off the 'notice of readiness' (DS2001) and attend your medical, but once you have those you can send off your forms and await your interview.

Take everything I've said with a pinch of salt since military does get treated differently sometimes, but that's about the gist of it.

Please read the guides above, fill out your timeline, and join us in the UK regional subforum!

Hey there

When your case is received by NVC they will assign a LND number. You can check with them if they have done this yet by calling (+1) 603 334 0700. You can keep calling them to ask when it has been dispatched to London, and then start calling DOS to see if LND has received it on (+1) 202 663 1225. Once London has logged your case you can send the packet 3 forms, since all packet 3 is, is a link to this page with the forms listed - l- http://london.usembassy.gov/iv_15.html

You don't have to wait until you physically receive the letter.

That's how I did it anyway. Use skype credit to make all the calls, I called NVC/DOS every few days for weeks and it cost me about $3 altogether!

Good luck. And remember to check out this thread for very specific post NOA2 london embassy info - http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/350185-london-2012-k1s-from-noa2-to-interview-thread/

Thank you both for your swift replies.

Yes i have just had the NAO2 from Cali 10 days back. We are both trying to work out the next step and it does not help with the 10 hour difference and me working crazy hours. W e have not had much of a chance to consilidate and re-group after the news.

I'm not doing this through the Military sadly as I'm British and had no chance of getting help from the US Mil channels.

Do you think its possible if i land back in the UK the 4th Sept, apply for the 2 day police cert, book my medical on the 10th, then try and get an interview with the embassy all within 4 weeks? No doubt a question that has many factors to consider. But i head back to Iraq on the 2nd October and would like to go back in a good position.

Thank you.

I would certainly think you have a strong case for a priority interview date - make it very clear on your cover letter to embassy with packet 3/4 that you are on a tight schedule as heading back to Baghdad. London have been pretty good lately at getting people out to the US around plans they state in their cover letters.

Although, i'm confused, when are you actually going to enter the US?

It took me a good 15 days to get my Police Certificate. I don't know if the fact that I'm Italian it required longer time ...

if I were you I would order the Police Certificate asa you get back, you could then book the medical and keep it in mind you could move it asa you phone them up 3/4 days prior your medical, in case you do not have the Police certificate yet.

When do you head back to the UK for good? Cos if you know that 4 months will pass by (from NOA2) then I would go ahead and ask for an extension (and think that due to the fact you are serving in Iraq it should be granted!)

whenever you gonna be ready for the interview, write on the cover letter when you are available and when you are in Iraq. So either before you leave or just soon after you are back you should have your interview.

I think this is what I'm going to go for. Send everything away in September(police check, medical, cover letter) and request a interview at the end of November. Hopefully leaving me to travel very early December.

Is it best to send packet 3 and do the medical close together? or can i send packet 3 at the start of September and do my medical at the end?

Also does the cover letter get sent along with packet 3?

If you send paket 3 first then the cover letter with the 2001 is there a set time you have to wait. As i imagine if everything is good to go that you could send these 2 things off at the exact same time.

Sorry for all the questions, i have been looking at this site for 8 hours straight now and my brain is a little fried.
