ABC's Brian Ross got himself into trouble on Friday when he incorrectly suggested there may have been a link between the alleged shooter in the Colorado theater tragedy and the Tea Party. Both Ross and the network later apologized for making the claim.

Ross' comments came after federal officials informed news outlets that the suspect was named James Holmes. George Stephanopoulos threw to him on "Good Morning America" by saying, "You've been investigating the background of Jim Holmes here. You found something that might be significant."

"There's a Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colorado, page on the Colorado Tea party site as well, talking about him joining the Tea Party last year," Ross said. "Now, we don't know if this is the same Jim Holmes. But it's Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colorado."

Does this surprise anyone? The US media is a total joke anymore. It's like watching reality TV after it's been fixed. The same US media that edited the Zimmerman 911 tapes, used a 4+ year old photo of Trayvon Martin, and then took Martin's FB photo's and photo shopped them to make him look whiter.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

I remember the George Bush thing.

Dan Rather making things up two months before the election in 2004.

By the time this is all over Zimmerman will be portrayed as a Nazi loving killing machine. Watch Soledad O'brien in the mornings on CNN. I thought MSNBC was biased. I stand corrected. John Sununu finally put her in her place. She needs to be drinking Mimosas on NBC.

Every problem in this country is blamed on the tea party by liberals.

The liberal elite ... know that the people simply cannot be trusted; that they are incapable of just and fair self-government; that left to their own devices, their society will be racist, sexist, homophobic, and inequitable -- and the liberal elite know how to fix things. They are going to help us live the good and just life, even if they have to lie to us and force us to do it. And they detest those who stand in their way."

The media in this country is atrocious.

Totally agree with that. When I lived in Canada most of the news was from the U.S. You pretty much never hear anything here about Canada unless it's some nut farmer in Vancouver, or Karla in Toronto.

The conspiracy theorists are already out there:

Colorado Batman shooting shows obvious signs of being staged

There is already conjecture that James Holmes may have been involved in mind-altering neuroscience research and ended up becoming involved at a depth he never anticipated. His actions clearly show a strange detachment from reality, indicating he was not in his right mind. That can only typically be accomplished through drugs, hypnosis or trauma (and sometimes all three).

If Slim or Paul was there, the body count would be much less.

Personally I feel safer with armed people near me.

Check out mcdonalds in Guatemala. Those guys were armed big time. Check out Wendy's in Makati. Same thing.

I guess in Quebec and Ontario it never happens.

Flash your money in PI. See how that works.

Is that because you don't think they are as ruthless and effective as the Colorado Joker, or, is it because they would have ignored the theater policy and would have been packing, as members of the audience, and would have effectively neutralized the perpetrator, causing less casualties themselves than would have been caused if they were not present?

What happens in Canada stays in Canada.

I feel safer with armed people out in front of me, to the flanks, and to the rear, especially if those weapons are pointed away from me, and they fully realize, I am not the enemy.

So many are quick to blame everything on the media when the media in this country is a reflection of what people are willing to watch. If people demanded critical thinking magazine pieces for their daily digest then the media would follow that formula. The simple fact is media is not a leader it is a follower and it does what the most people want whether they are willing to admit it or not. The media needs the ratings for the advertisers so they're going to see what the most people are watching and produce that content even if it is mostly entertainment vs. informing others. It's simple supply and demand economics.

Here is something interesting brought up in the media and most likely provided as a tip from a viewer that is an adamant batman comic book reader.

Was the deadly Colorado shooting inspired by a 1986 Batman comic book? The coincidence is intriguing and may very well have been the actual inspiration for the deranged shooter.

What you state in that post goes against just about everything I was taught in journalism class. It begins with ethics and goes from there.
