Steps after NOA2 for Germany

My fiancé and I received our NOA2 on July 2 (!) and have some questions about the next steps. It seems the German Consulate information on this website is slightly out-of-date, so I’m wondering if someone who has gone through the process recently in Germany could help us out. Our questions are:

1. Do we need to wait for the embassy in Frankfurt to receive any information from the National Visa Center before sending in the next set of forms? (DS-230, DS-156, DS-157, DS-156k). I would think yes, but the embassy website says “If your K-Visa petition has been approved, the following documents should be submitted immediately,” which implies we do not need to wait for anything after we’ve received our approval.

2. Do the documents we submit with the DS-156k (birth certificate, police certificate, and evidence of financial support (I-134)) need to be re-submitted with the "K-1 visa document checklist"? I know they used to have you bring the checklist items to the interview, but now the form requires you to sign “'I have attached the original and one photocopy of all the documents listed in items 2 through 12” and says “you will not be scheduled for an appointment until you have mailed this form, together with all necessary documents, to this office.” So, do we mail an original birth certificate/police certificate/I-134 with the DS-156k AND checklist, or will they eventually be matched up and we just need one original of each document?

Thank you so much for your help; I truly appreciate having such a great resource!

That's actually good to know they changed the process. It could cut down on your wait time in the embassy. My husband spent a good portion of the day there (I think it was 5 hours before he finally got back to the interview). That's after driving 6 hours there from Berlin. I posted his experience in our timeline if you'd like a better idea of what happened.

I was going to answer you other questions for you but my husband looked at me like  when I asked him if he mailed off his forms before he got the request from Frankfurt, then said "that was years ago". Men. (it was last year, btw)

Good luck with your visa!

Hey fellow Germans! I have received package 3 already and now am preparing everything to send it back. After some research, I also got to know that they have changed the process and now you have to send everything back before the interview.

What I am trying to find out but cannot seem to verify is if we also have to send in the birth certificate and police cert of the UCS. He is still preparing what he will send to me, and we wanna make sure that everything is correct.

Also, is it true that the letter of intent has to be dated to at least one month before the interview? How can I do this if I don't know when my interview will take place?

Thanks and good luck to all!

I'm so confused right now. The consulate website still has the old forms saying not to send information in to them except the following:

Enclosures:

DS-230 Part I, Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration - Biographic Data

DS-156, DS-157, DS-156K

Form I-134 – Affidavit of Support & Information Sheet

Photograph Information Sheet

Regarding the letter of intent: Just showing a new letter of intent affirms you still want to marry. I don't think the date is necessarily needing to be within 30 days, just that you still intent to get married (since your original letter is likely a few months old and boy does dealing with the US government test that resolve, haha).

Please let me know if you Packet 3 is different so I'll know not to give wrong information. The information contained above is from form dated 12/2010 (obtained from the consulate website). Thanks and best of luck to you!

There is a new form updated in 2012 saying to send everything in exept the Passport before the Interview. Good luck

Good to know! Thanks for the information. I wish they'd update the consulate site to reflect it. They still have the old forms (not surprising I know)!
