FBI checks slow because of election year...?????

Twice I asked our immigration lawyer why things were moving so slow. Twice I got the answer...because it's an election year. Really? This time I asked about the email answer I got from USCIS that said the background checks are pending. Here is her answer:

"They do preliminary background checks on you and he with the FBI. Things are unfortunately taking a little longer in general this year because it is an election year."

So...is this true? But why do I get the feeling she is just trying to soothe my ruffled feathers like I'm a 2 year old?

It's going slow because you hired an attorney. Sad, but true. They move at their own pace and unfortunately you are at their mercy. Good luck!!!

Ok, I am open to learning more. What did she do to slow it down that I could have done faster myself? She filed the paperwork and we got our NOA1 in a very short time. Nothing has happened since then. If I was doing this myself wouldn't I still be stuck waiting for NOA2? The reason I hired her is I was not confident to do it myself and I had no idea this forum with all you good people even existed :bonk:

Your statement really doesn't make sense with indiana sweetie's situation because her I-130 was already filed. She's waiting for a response from USCIS & I don't think her lawyer can do anything to speed up the security checks they do.

I don't think all the attorney's are bad & the one hired by my husband really seems to be on top of things: when he asked her about contacting USCIS because 5 months had already passed, he found she already called them. She was told back then that USCIS was still working applications received BEFORE Dec 16th & since mine was received Dec 30th we will have to wait. A few weeks later she called them again, they acknowledged my application was beyond normal processing times & from there she submitted a service request. I am going to let him ask her if the delay could be related to the fact that this year is an election year & see what she tells him.

Twice I asked our immigration lawyer why things were moving so slow. Twice I got the answer...because it's an election year. Really? This time I asked about the email answer I got from USCIS that said the background checks are pending. Here is her answer:

I see on indiana_sweetie's profile it says the below line.

June 22, 2012 - Received email from USCIS with statement that security checks are pending

Anybody else ever get this kind of notice from USCIS? First time I"ve seen it, at least on these forums...Could her attorney be right about the background checks? Seems plausible to me that they would do a background check on me.

What USCIS wrote was in response to my question as to why it was taking so long to get an approval. I used the contact form on the website.

I think we are missing details about petitioner and beneficiary's background history. All guesses at this point may be inaccurate without knowing sufficient information.

OP, if you think if you are clear on your case without any red flags, then I would recommend to file a service request as well as contact your local senator to push USCIS. That's all you can do at this point.

Me..petitioner..no police record, never did anything bad, no drugs, no associations with gangs, etc. so I don't think they will find anything on me. Hubby says he has no record and no bad associations. When we were together he got his police report for me to bring back to the lawyer, even though I told him it probably wasn't needed right away. It was clean, in 3 languages. From what I was reading on the FBI checks, it's possible to get hung up when a person has a common name. Mine is not but his is common for his country.
