Hey everybody, I've got a quick question concerning my police record - do I need to get an official translation before sending it to NVC or can I simply send my German version? Thanks in advance for your reply! :)

Yes, a notarized translation is needed with along with the original!

A translation is required and it only has to have a statement by the translator that they are fluent in both languages and that this is a true and correct translation--that's all we did for my wife's police certificate and BC. That is not the same as being notorized as notorized only is an indication that the person signing the form is who they say they are. If the USCIS wants a notorized document they state they want a notorized document in the instructions.

Good luck,

Dave

Hello,

A translation is not required. Please check with US State Dept website which says "All documents not written in English, or in the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified translations and submitted to the NVC." This means to say that if your spouse is applying for the visa from Germany, then translation from German to English is not required. However, it would be best to verify with the Consulate in Germany to confirm.

Dear all,

thanks for your replies. My husband called NVC yesterday and was told that a translation was not necessary as my police record will be forwarded to the consulate in Frankfurt which accepts documents in both German and English.
