Dual Citizenship

I'm an American citizen with a British father. I'm over 18, so he can't apply for dual citizenship for me. I'm pretty sure it's still possible to become a dual citizen, but the UK border patrol website really confuses me. Can anyone help?

Do you know how I would go about registering? All the forms I found are for under 18.

If you automatically qualify to become a British citizen (which you do, through your father) you do not need to register - whether you are a child or adult, you apply directly for the passport supplying your father's UK birth certificate.

I believe if your father was an "overseas citizen" who was born in Hong Kong or Gibraltar you would need to register

The same as what was said above, the questions on the passport forms (not sure if theyre different if youre doing it from over there) request information about your parents and their birth certificate if its a UK one and yours isnt.
