Curious... does NVC bill the old fee before April 13th and the new fee after April 13th? For those that were billed just before the 13th, can they wait until after the 13th to pay to save some money, $100 is a big difference for CR1!

NVC has currently put all IV invoices on hold until this Friday. So, once Friday hits, those bills will be invoiced at the new lower fee of $304.

Are you getting the DS-230 from the official site, located here: http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/81807.pdf ? Do you have Adobe Reader or Acrobat installed? Or ANY kind of PDF program on your computer?

Ah, that's pretty well thought out to avoid that situation then. Thanks for the info, Saylin!

First off, you should upgrade to Adobe Reader 10 :P

Have you tried saving the form first and then filling it out? What browser are you on?

This will always vary by consulate/embassy. You'll have to search around for others from your country and study their timelines. This what I did for Canada to get an estimate on my own time frames.

Like others have said, and you found out, the fees for the IV are DECREASING. Instead of $330, it's going down to $230. The surcharge of $74 is staying the same. So, instead of paying a total of $404, as of Friday, you'll be paying $304.

The decreases (or increases) are only those for visa application fees (DoS fees). The petition fees (like the I-130) is staying the same. USCIS is not changing their fees at the moment.

The change of fees will only affect the IV fee in your case. And there have been a few operators that have confirmed that all IV invoiced are currently on hold until this Friday when the change occurs. So, you'll be invoiced for $304, not $404.

http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2012/03/187114.htm

If you press 1 as soon as you hear the guy talking, it'll skip the 5 minute long speech he recites. Then once you get to the next menu, hit 0 to speak with an operator, or as they call them "visa specialists".

Yes.

They were asking about DOS, not NVC :P

Grats on getting your case number! Call back asap and ask for the "Invoice Identification Number". If the operator refuses, just hang up and try again. Some operators are fussy about giving out the number headbonk.gif

Ok thanks Saylin i think that i will have to apply for one and have them sent it to my wife's house so when i come i could start driving the first day i arrive as she is pregnant you never know what could happen, as sometimes babies suprise us by coming earlier than predicted

I'm not sure if it's the same for Columbia, but for Canada, K-1 applicants schedule their own interviews online, with the availability about 2-3 months in the future (so, for example, June, July, August). IR-1/CR-1 applicants still get scheduled for the months before that though (April, May, etc). Doesn't mean that there's no spots left. But, like I said, this is for Canada; not sure if it's the same for Columbia.

Pheeeew! Thanks Saylin ... :D

AAA provides an "International Driving Permit" that is a booklet that contains a photo, name, and other information along with several pages of translations of the document in foreign languages. I obtained this so I could legally drive in Chile. It is accepted by most countries, a few notable exceptions are Brazil and Uruguay. The document is valid for 1 year and costs $15.
