This morning at 8.30am we had our interview appointment in the San Jose office for adjustment of status from a K1 visa.

We got there only a few minutes early and waited in the seating room for around 30 minutes. It seemed quite busy, but hey, this is California. Eventually my husband and I got called by a young-ish white guy and led into his office. From the beginning he was welcoming and polite.

He checked our IDS and took the I-94. Then he looked through my file and asked me to confirm basic details like my full name, date of birth, and checked if my address is still the same. He skimmed through the I-485 very quickly, ticking off the part with the 'no' questions (are you a terrorist, have you killed someone, problems with drugs etc). He was barely even asking me for replies but rather ticking through them quickly.

After that he asked my husband his full name, if he still works at his job and asked me how we met. He asked for proof of our marriage and I offered him our marriage license, a few badly printed photos, and a copy of the latest tax return where my husband claimed me as a dependent. We also had boarding passes from our trips, affidavits from our friends/family and a copy of our apartment lease, but he didn't want any of those.

He skimmed over the folder one more time stating that everything looked in order. Finally, he gave me a piece of paper for my records that simply said we attended the interview. He let me know I'd receive the 2 year GC in 10 - 15 days. And that was all.

The officer also told us about a film he'd seen recently that reminded him of our case, about the British girl who studies in California and falls for a guy here. (he was referring to the film 'Like Crazy' (2011) which I have refused to watch simply because it seems much too eerie and close to home!) So thats how casual he was.

TLDR - I was over-prepared, there was nothing to worry about, officer was very nice to us. Waited for about 30 mins, interview lasted about 10.

Thanks to everyone on VJ who posted their AOS experiences, I've obsessed over all your details the past few weeks, and I hope my review is helpful to others who have their appointments soon.

Congratulations, we were over prepared also, but I asked the IO about it.. Her response was if you weren't you would have had issues. I agree with being fully prepared. Again good job, we got our GC in less than or about 6/7 days. PS the (GC) work we went to Mexico on a honeymoon finally.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.
